Abstract

A computer system for identifying execution paths of analytic elements comprises computer-executable instructions that configure the computer system to identify an orphan analytic element and a second analytic element associated with a network-connected software application. The system can also be configured to identify, with a computer processor, one or more common attributes associated with the orphan analytic element and the second analytic element. Based upon the one or more common attributes, the computer system can identify an execution path for the orphan analytic element. Additionally, the system can be configured to execute, at the one or more computer processors, the network-connected software application, capture network communications generated by the network-connected software application, and generate observed execution paths based on the captured network communications. The system can additionally generate a report indicating the frequency of analytic element execution paths associated with the network-connected software application.

Claims (50)

1. A computer system for identifying execution paths of analytic elements comprising:

one or more processors;

one or more storage devices having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that when executed by the one or more processors configure the computer system to perform at least the following:

identify an orphan analytic element associated with a network-connected software application, wherein the orphan analytic element comprises a first network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a first portion of content that is delivered to the computer system;

identify a second analytic element associated with the network-connected software application, wherein the second analytic element comprises:

a second network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a second portion of content that is delivered to the computer system, and

one or more common attributes associated with the orphan analytic element;

identify an execution path for the orphan analytic element based on the one or more common attributes

identify one or more computer-executable elements associated with each of the orphan analytic element and the second analytic element that when executed by the one or more processors cause the computer system to generate the first network request and the second network request;

execute, at the one or more processors, the network-connected software application;

capture network communications generated by the network-connected software application;

generate observed execution paths based on the captured network communications;

receive, at the computer system, source code for the network-connected software application;

identify one or more expected execution paths based on the source code; and

analyze, at the one or more processors, the observed execution paths and the one or more expected execution paths.

2. The computer system as recited in claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more common attributes comprises a computer executable element in communication with a same destination server receiving the first network request and the second network request.

3. The computer system as recited in claim 1 , further comprising computer-executable instructions that configure the computer system to perform at least the following:

generate a report indicating a frequency of one or more execution paths of analytic elements associated with the network-connected software application.

4. The computer system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the orphan analytic element is fired from within a multimedia file.

5. A computerized method comprising computer-executable instructions that when implemented at a computer system that includes one or more processors, perform a method for identifying execution paths of analytic elements, the computerized method comprising:

identifying an orphan analytic element associated with a network-connected software application, wherein the orphan analytic element comprises a first network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a first portion of content that is delivered to the computer system;

identifying a second analytic element associated with the network-connected software application, wherein the second analytic element comprises:

a second network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a second portion of content that is delivered to the computer system, and

one or more common attributes associated with the orphan analytic element;

identifying an execution path for the orphan analytic element based on the one or more common attributes;

executing, at the one or more processors, the network-connected software application;

capturing network communications generated by the network-connected software application;

generating observed execution paths based on the captured network communications;

receiving, at the computer system, source code for the network-connected software application;

identifying one or more expected execution paths based on the source code; and

analyzing, at the one or more processors, the observed execution paths and the one or more expected execution paths.

6. The computerized method as recited in claim 5 , wherein at least one of the one or more common attributes comprises a computer executable element in communication with a same destination server receiving the first network request and the second network request.

7. The computerized method as recited in claim 5 , further comprising identifying one or more computer-executable elements associated with each of the orphan analytic element and the second analytic element that when executed by the one or more processors cause the computer system to generate the first network request and second network request.

8. The computerized method as recited in claim 5 , further comprising:

generating a report indicating a frequency of one or more execution paths of analytic elements associated with the network-connected software application.

9. The computerized method as recited in claim 5 , wherein the orphan analytic element is fired from within a multimedia file.

10. A computer program product comprising one or more hardware storage devices having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that are executable by one or more processors of a computer system and that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computer system to identify execution paths of analytic elements, including computer-executable instructions that configure the computer system to perform at least the following:

identify an orphan analytic element associated with a network-connected software application, wherein the orphan analytic element comprises a first network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a first portion of content that is delivered to the computer system;

identify a second analytic element associated with the network-connected software application, wherein the second analytic element comprises:

a second network request initiated by the computer system based upon at least a second portion of content that is delivered to the computer system, and

one or more common attributes associated with the orphan analytic element; and

identify an execution path for the orphan analytic element based on the one or more common attributes;

identify one or more computer-executable elements associated with each of the orphan analytic element and the second analytic element that when executed by the one or more processors cause the computer system to generate the first network request and second network request;

execute, at the one or more processors, the network-connected software application;

capture network communications generated by the network-connected software application;

generate observed execution paths based on the captured network communications;

receive, at the computer system, source code for the network-connected software application;

identify one or more expected execution paths based on the source code; and

analyze, at the one or more processors, the observed execution paths and the one or more expected execution paths.

11. The computer program product as recited in claim 10 , wherein at least one of the one or more common attributes comprises a computer executable element in communication with a same destination server receiving the first network request and the second network request.
