Abstract

The present invention relates to a polymer composition comprising a polymer comprising methyl methacrylate, (meth)acrylic acid and styrene monomers. In particular, the present invention relates to a polymer composition comprising a polymer comprising methyl methacrylate, (meth)acrylic acid and styrene monomers, said composition having particularly advantageous compromises of heat-resistant, fluidity, scratch-resistant and chemical-resistant properties. The present invention also relates to a molded or extruded object comprising a polymer comprising methyl methacrylate, (meth)acrylic acid and of styrene monomers, and the use of these objects.

Claims (25)

1. A method for limiting warping of an object while maintaining the process cycle time, comprising the step of forming said object from a composition comprising:

(a) from 25 to 65 wt % of the total weight of the composition, at least one semi-crystalline copolyamide A/X1 Y wherein:

A is a repeating unit obtained from the polycondensation of at least one C 6 to C 12 lactam or of at least one C 6 to C 12 amino acid or at least one repeating unit XY obtained from the polycondensation of at least one C 4 to C 18 aliphatic diamine (X) and at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (Y) selected from the group consisting of suberic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid, undecanedioic acid, dodecanedioic acid, brassylic acid, tetradecanedioic acid, pentadecanedioic acid, hexadecanedioic acid and octadecanedioic acid,

X 1 Y is a repeating unit obtained from the polycondensation of a diamine (X 1 ) chosen from an arylamine, a cycloaliphatic diamine or a branched aliphatic diamine, and at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (Y) selected from the group consisting of adipic acid, suberic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid, undecanedioic acid, dodecanedioic acid, brassylic acid, tetradecanedioic acid, pentadecanedioic acid, hexadecanedioic acid and octadecanedioic acid,

the A/X 1 Y ratio by weight being comprised from 60/40 to 95/5,

(b) fiberglass with a circular cross-section, and

(c) from 0.1 to 2% by weight of at least one additive and, optionally, at least one impact modifier,

wherein the at least one additive is selected from the group consisting of fillers, colorants, stabilizers, plasticizers, surfactants, nucleating agents, pigments, whitening agents, antioxidants, lubricants, flame retardants and waxes.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises the at least one impact modifier and wherein the fiberglass has a L/D ratio less than 2.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises:

from 35 to 75% by weight of said fiberglass with a circular cross-section,

from 0 to 10% by weight of at least one impact modifier,

the sum of the proportions of each constituent of the composition being equal to 100%.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said arylamine is chosen from meta-xylylene diamine (MXD) and para-xylylene diamine (PXD).

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said cycloaliphatic diamine is selected from the group consisting of bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane (BAC), 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-diamino-dicyclohexyl-methane (BMACM or MACM), and bis-(p-aminocyclohexyl)-methane (PACM).

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said cycloaliphatic diamine is bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane (BAC).

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said branched aliphatic diamine is selected from the group consisting of 2-methyloctanediamine (MOMD), methylpentamethylene diamine (MPMD) and trimethylhexanemethylene diamine (TMDA).

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein (X 1 ) is selected from the group consisting of meta-xylylene diamine (MXD), para-xylylene diamine (PXD), bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane (BAC) and methylpentamethylene diamine (MPMD).

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein A is a repeating unit XY.

10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein A is a repeating unit XY, and (Y) in unit XY is a aliphatic (Y) dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of suberic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid, undecanedioic acid and dodecanedioic acid.

11. The method according to claim 9 , wherein (X) corresponds to a C 6 to C 12 diamine.

12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein A is a repeating unit obtained from the polycondensation of a lactam or an amino acid.
