Abstract

A method performed by a UE may comprise transmitting capability information to an IMS. The capability information may indicate that the UE supports data transfer via IMS. The UE may transmit data and an XML message, based on capability. The XML message may describe the data transmitted. In some embodiments, the data may be binary data, for example, binary animation data. Other binary types may be supported.

Claims (29)

1. A method performed by a first user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

transmitting, by the first UE to an Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS), capability information indicating that the first UE supports data transfer via IMS and that the first UE supports extensible markup language (XML); and

transmitting, by the first UE, an XML message and data, in accordance with the capability information.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data is an animation and the data is transmitted via the IMS.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data is a binary and the data is transmitted via the IMS.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, in response to transmitting the XML message, an indication of whether the XML message was successfully received by a second UE.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data is transmitted over a wireless local area network (WLAN).

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the capability information indicates support for session initiation protocol (SIP).

7. The method of claim 4 , wherein the second UE is a fixed UE.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the capability information indicates support for receiving short messages over a wireless local area network (WLAN).

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the XML message comprises a text message.

10. A first user equipment (UE) comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit, from the first UE to an Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS), capability information indicating capabilities of the first UE, wherein the capability information indicates that the first UE supports data transfer via IMS; and

the transmitter configured to transmit data, in accordance with an extensible markup language (XML) message; and the capability information.

11. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the data is an animation and the data is received by a second UE.

12. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the data is a binary.

13. The first UE of claim 10 , further comprising:

a receiver configured to receive, in response to transmitting the data, an indication of whether the data was successfully received by a second UE.

14. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the data is transmitted over a wireless local area network (WLAN).

15. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the capability information indicates support for session initiation protocol (SIP).

16. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the data is received by a second UE, wherein the second UE is a fixed UE.

17. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the capability information indicates support for receiving short messages over a wireless local area network (WLAN).

18. The first UE of claim 10 , wherein the XML message comprises a text message.

19. A first user equipment (UE) comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit, from the first UE to an Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS), capability information indicating a plurality of capabilities of the first UE, wherein the first UE supports extensible markup language (XML) and the first UE supports data transfer via IMS;

a receiver configured to receive an XML message; and

the receiver configured to receive animation data, in accordance with the capability information.

20. The first UE of claim 19 , wherein the animation data is received from a second UE, via the IMS, over a wireless local area network (WLAN).
