Abstract

A system includes a proxy device, a requestor device that communicates with the proxy via a first communications link, and an asset host that communicates with the proxy via a second communications link. The proxy receives receive an access request from a user of the requestor device via the first communication link. The access request is associated with a requested asset hosted by the asset host, and includes pipeline language parameters. Routing information associated with the asset host is determined, and the access request is routed to the asset host in response to verifying that the user is authorized to access the requested asset. The proxy device obtains the requested asset from the asset host, transforms the requested asset based on the pipeline language parameters, and transmits the transformed asset to the requestor device.

Claims (74)

1. A system comprising:

a proxy device including:

a processor and associated memory;

a storage device configured to store pipeline language parameters extracted from a uniform resource locator (URL) included in an access request;

a requestor device coupled to the proxy device via a first communications link;

an asset host coupled to the proxy device via a second communications link, the asset host hosting one or more assets;

the proxy device configured to:

receive an access request from a user of the requestor device via the first communication link, the access request associated with a requested asset hosted by the asset host, and including pipeline language parameters;

determine routing information associated with the asset host;

route the access request to the asset host in response to verifying that the user is authorized to access the requested asset;

obtain the requested asset from the asset host;

extract the pipeline language parameters from the uniform resource locator (URL) included in the access request using an extraction module, wherein the pipeline language parameters include transform commands;

generate a transformed asset by transforming the requested asset based on the pipeline language parameters; and

transmit the transformed asset to the requestor device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proxy device includes:

a transformation module configured to:

retrieve the pipeline language parameters from the storage device; and

generate the transformed asset by applying the transform commands to the requested asset in an order indicated by the URL.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proxy device includes:

a directory services module configured to obtain access authorization information by querying one of a directory services server or a directory services database.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the proxy device includes:

a routing module configured to determine a current location and status of the requested asset.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the access request is further associated with an application resource, and the proxy device is further configured to:

perform an application-level authorization check;

perform an asset-level authorization check; and

conditionally route the access request to the asset host in response to favorable results of both the application-level authorization check and the asset-level authorization check.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the routing information includes:

security requirements for particular addresses.

7. A method comprising:

receiving, at a proxy device including a processor and associated memory, an access request from a user of a requestor device, the access request associated with a requested asset hosted by an asset host, and including pipeline language parameters;

determining, at the proxy device, routing information associated with the asset host;

routing the access request to the asset host in response to verifying, at the proxy device, that the user is authorized to access the requested asset;

obtaining, at the proxy device, the requested asset from the asset host;

extracting the pipeline language parameters from a uniform resource locator (URL) included in the access request, wherein the pipeline language parameters include transform commands;

storing the pipeline language parameters extracted from the URL in a storage device;

generate, at the proxy device, a transformed asset by transforming the requested asset based on the pipeline language parameters; and

transmitting the transformed asset from the proxy device to the requestor device.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

retrieving the pipeline language parameters from the storage device; and

generating the transformed asset by applying the transform commands to the requested asset in an order indicated by the URL.

9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

obtaining access authorization information by querying one of a directory services server or a directory services database.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

determining a current location and status of the requested asset.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the access request is further associated with an application resource, and the method further comprises:

performing an application-level authorization check;

performing an asset-level authorization check; and

conditionally routing the access request to the asset host in response to favorable results of both the application-level authorization check and the asset-level authorization check.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the routing information includes:

security requirements for particular addresses.

13. A proxy device comprising:

a processor and associated memory;

a network interface coupled to the processor, the network interface further coupled to a requestor device via a first communications link and to an asset host via a second communications link;

a storage device configured to store pipeline language parameters extracted from a uniform resource locator (URL) included in an access request;

the processor and associated memory configured to:

receive an access request from a user of a requestor device via the network interface, the access request associated with a requested asset hosted by the asset host, and including pipeline language parameters;

determine routing information associated with the asset host;

route the access request to the asset host in response to verifying that the user is authorized to access the requested asset;

obtain the requested asset from the asset host;

extract the pipeline language parameters from a uniform resource locator (URL) included in the access request using an extraction module, wherein the pipeline language parameters include transform commands;

generate a transformed asset by transforming the requested asset based on the pipeline language parameters; and

transmit the transformed asset to the requestor device.

14. The proxy device of claim 13 , wherein the proxy device further includes:

a transformation module configured to:

retrieve the pipeline language parameters from the storage device; and

generate the transformed asset by applying the transform commands to the requested asset in an order indicated by the URL.

15. The proxy device of claim 13 , wherein the proxy device further includes:

a directory services module configured to obtain access authorization information by querying one of a directory services server or a directory services database.

16. The proxy device of claim 13 , wherein the proxy device further includes:

a routing module configured to determine a current location and status of the requested asset.

17. The proxy device of claim 13 , wherein the access request is further associated with an application resource, and the processor and associated memory are further configured to:

perform an application-level authorization check;

perform an asset-level authorization check; and

conditionally route the access request to the asset host in response to favorable results of both the application-level authorization check and the asset-level authorization check.
