System and method for implant delivery
An implant delivery system is described. The implant delivery system utilizes an implant, implant wire, delivery sheath, and a torque device. The torque device may include a cutting element to slit the delivery sheath and a clamp device to fix the position of the implant delivery wire.
1. An implant delivery device for delivering a medical implant operatively connected to an elongated implant wire, comprising:
a torque device comprising:
a body member having recessed portions;
a mating piece having recessed portions that removably connects to and mates with the body member;
a first passage extending through the body member, the first passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that align with each other, the first passage continuing through the body member;
a separator member removably located within the first passage and allowing passage of the elongated implant wire; the separator member comprising a separator tube and a cutting element that is fixed to the separator tube and positioned proximally of a distal end of the tube;
a second passage connecting to the first passage near the cutting element, the second passage extending away from the first passage; the second passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that mate with each other;
a clamp mechanism which selectively presses against the elongated implant wire;
wherein the cutting element is positioned in the first passage in between the body member and the mating piece to slit a sheath passing through the first passage and wherein the torque device directs the slit sheath into the second passage while leaving the implant in place.
2. The implant delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the clamp mechanism comprises a collet and a screw member that is selectively contactable with said collet, so as to increase or decrease the diameter of the collet.
3. The implant delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the screw member is threaded onto a proximal end of a body of the torque device.
4. The implant delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the medical implant is an embolic protection device.
5. The implant delivery device of claim 1 wherein the cutting element comprises a sharpened edge positioned towards a distal end of the torque device.
6. The implant delivery system of device 1 wherein the separator passage extends beyond the distal end of the cutting element.
7. The implant delivery device of claim 1 wherein the body member and the mating piece both have apertures which align to facilitating connection between the body member and the mating piece.
8. An implant delivery device for delivering a medical implant operatively connected to an elongated implant wire, comprising:
a torque device comprising:
a body member having recessed portions;
a mating piece having recessed portions that removably connects to and mates with the body member;
a first passage extending through the body member, the first passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that align with each other, the first passage continuing through the body member;
a separator tube removably located within the first passage and allowing passage of the elongated implant wire;
a cutting element that is fixed adjacent to the tube and positioned proximally of a distal end of the tube; the cutting element being removably located from the first passage;
a second passage connecting to the first passage near the cutting element, the second passage extending away from the first passage; the second passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that mate with each other;
a clamp mechanism which selectively presses against the elongated implant wire;
wherein the cutting element is positioned in the first passage in between the body member and the mating piece to slit a sheath passing through the first passage and wherein the torque device directs the slit sheath into the second passage while leaving the implant in place.
9. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting element is disposed underneath the first passage, opposite of the second passage.
10. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the cutting element is disposed above the first passage, adjacent to the second passage.
11. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the clamp mechanism comprises a collet and a screw member that is selectively contactable with said collet, so as to increase or decrease the diameter of the collet.
12. The implant delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the screw member is threaded onto a proximal end of a body of the torque device.
13. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the medical implant is an embolic protection device.
14. The implant delivery device or claim 8 , wherein the body member and the mating piece both have apertures which align to facilitating connection between the body member and the mating piece.
15. The implant delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the medical implant is an embolic protection device.
16. The implant delivery device or claim 8 , wherein the body member and the mating piece both have apertures which align to facilitating connection between the body member and the mating piece.
17. An implant delivery device for delivering a medical implant operatively connected to an elongated implant wire, comprising:
a torque device comprising:
a body member having recessed portions;
a mating piece having recessed portions that removably connects to and mates with the body member;
a first passage extending through the body member, the first passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that align with each other, the first passage continuing through the body member;
a separator member removably located within the first passage and allowing passage of the elongated implant wire; the separator member comprising a separator tube and a cutting element that is fixed to the tube and positioned proximally of a distal end of the tube;
a second passage connecting to the first passage near the cutting element, the second passage extending away from the first passage; the second passage comprising recessed area of the body member and recessed area in the mating piece that mate with each other;
wherein the cutting element is positioned in the first passage in between the body member and the mating piece to slit a sheath passing through the first passage and wherein the torque device directs the slit sheath into the second passage while leaving the implant in place.
18. The implant delivery device of claim 17 , wherein the cutting element is disposed underneath the first passage, opposite of the second passage.
