Abstract

Disclosed embodiments relate to systems and methods for automatically initializing a standalone e-discovery machine to a local network when the standalone e-discovery machine is physically or wirelessly connected to the local network. Aspects include automatically obtaining, by the standalone e-discovery machine, a network address on the local network; automatically generating, by the standalone e-discovery machine, an initialization page relating to a document management application hosted by the standalone e-discovery machine; receiving, by the standalone e-discovery machine, configuration information from the local network after a user indicates commencement of initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine; and automatically executing, by the standalone e-discovery machine, the document management application based on the received configuration information.

Claims (28)

1. A computer-implemented method to automatically initialize a standalone e-discovery machine to a local network when the e-discovery machine is physically or wirelessly connected to the local network comprising:

automatically obtaining, by the standalone e-discovery machine, a network address on the local network at a time the standalone e-discovery machine is physically or wirelessly connected to the local network, wherein the network address identifies the local network to the standalone e-discovery machine and is used to automatically begin initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network;

automatically generating, by the standalone e-discovery machine, an initialization page relating to a document management application hosted by the standalone e-discovery machine, wherein the initialization page enables a user to provide an indication to continue initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network using at least the obtained network address;

receiving, by the standalone e-discovery machine, configuration information from the local network based on the user indication, wherein the configuration information is used to complete initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network; and

automatically executing, by the standalone e-discovery machine, the document management application based on the received configuration information.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the received configuration information comprises configuration code relating to at least one of:standalone e-discovery machine settings or local network settings.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the standalone e-discovery machine is integrated into the local network and the integration into the local network comprises the standalone e-discovery machine being physically connected tothe local network.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the standalone e-discovery machine is integrated into the local network and the integration into the local network comprises the standalone e-discovery machine being wirelessly connected tothe local network.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein automatically obtaining the network address comprises using a DHCP protocol to obtain the network address.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein using the DHCP protocol comprises assigning the standalone e-discovery machine an IP address permitting the standalone e-discovery machine to communicate with other devices on the network.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein automatically obtaining the network address comprises configuring the standalone e-discovery machine to securely communicate to an external server.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein securely communicating to the external server comprises accessing an internal VPN server on the standalone e-discovery machine and initiating a VPN connection to an external network of the external server.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein automatically executing the document management application comprises executing software stored locally on the standalone e-discovery machine.

10. A standalone e-discovery apparatus comprising:

a processor configured to execute software instructions;

and a memory storing the software instructions, wherein the processor is configured to execute the software instructions to perform operations comprising:

automatically obtaining, by a standalone e-discovery machine, a network address on a local network at a time the standalone e-discovery machine is physically or wirelessly connected to the local network, wherein the network address identifies the local network to the standalone e-discovery machine and is used to automatically begin initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network;

automatically generating the standalone e-discovery machine, an initialization page relating to a document management application hosted by the standalone e-discovery machine, wherein the initialization page enables a user to provide an indication to continue initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network using at least the obtained network address;

receiving, by the standalone e-discovery machine, configuration information from the local network based on the user indication wherein the configuration information is used to complete initialization of the standalone e-discovery machine to the local network; and

automatically executing, by the standalone e-discovery machine, the document management application based on the received configuration information.

11. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the received configuration information comprises configuration code relating to at least one of: standalone e-discovery machine settings or local network settings.

12. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the standalone e-discovery machine is integrated into the local network and the integration into the local network comprises the standalone e-discovery machine being physically connected to the local network.

13. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the standalone e-discovery machine is integrated into the local network and the integration into the local network comprises the standalone e-discovery machine being wirelessly connected tothe local network.

14. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein automatically obtaining the network address comprises using a DHCP protocol to obtain the network address.

15. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 14 , wherein using the DHCP protocol comprises assigning the standalone e-discovery machine an IP address permitting the standalone e-discovery machine to communicate with other devices on the network.

16. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein automatically obtaining the network address comprises configuring the standalone e-discovery machine to securely communicate to an external server.

17. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 16 , wherein securely communicating to the external server comprises accessing an internal VPN server on the standalone e-discovery machine and initiating a VPN connection to an external network of the external server.

18. The standalone e-discovery apparatus of claim 10 , wherein automatically executing the document management application comprises executing software stored locally on the standalone e-discovery machine.
