Abstract

An electronic device includes a housing, one or more sensors and a battery within the housing, a base, and a set of electrodes. The housing includes a housing window. The sensors are configured to interface with the user to generate physiological data associated with the user's health. The battery is configured to power the sensors. The base is removably coupled to the housing and includes an inner surface, an outer surface, and a base window. The inner surface is configured to engage the housing and secure the housing to the base. The set of electrodes are removably coupled to the base such that when the housing is secured to the base, the set of electrodes is configured to conduct electrical signals of the housing across the base, facilitating movement of the electrical signals through the base, between the inner surface of the base and the outer surface of the base.

Claims (38)

1. An electronic device for measuring health metrics of a user, comprising:

a housing including a housing window;

one or more sensors provided within the housing, the one or more sensors configured to interlace with the user to generate physiological data associated with the health metrics of the user;

a battery provided within the housing, the battery configured to power the one or more sensors:

a base configured to removably couple to the housing, the base including an inner surface, an outer surface, and a base window, wherein the base window is an opening in the base,

the inner surface of the base configured to engage the housing and secure the housing to the base, wherein when the housing is secured to the base, the housing window is positioned outside the base window and the base window remains free of any material such that the one or more sensors interface with the user via the base window and the housing window; and

a set of electrodes outside the housing and independently replaceable from the base, the set of electrodes being configured to removably couple to the base such that when the housing is secured to the base, the set of electrodes is configured to conduct electrical signals of the housing across the base, facilitating movement of the electrical signals through the base, between the inner surface of the base and the outer surface of the base.

The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors comprise a photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor, and when the housing is secured to the base, the PPG sensor interfaces with the user via the base window and the housing window by (i) emitting light that passes through the base window and the housing window, and (ii) receiving reflected light that passes through the base window and the housing window.

3. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the housing window is made from translucent materials including plastic, sapphire crystals, mineral crystals, plexiglass, hesalite crystals, or glass.

4. The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising:

an adhesive layer configured to secure the set of electrodes to skin of the user, wherein the set of electrodes are disposed in the adhesive layer such that a first end of each of the set of electrodes contacts the skin of the user and a second end of each of the set of electrodes is removably coupled to the base.

5. The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a band configured to secure the set of electrodes to the skin of the user, wherein a first end of each of the set of electrodes contacts the skin of the user and a second end of each of the set of electrodes is removably coupled to the base.

6. The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a network interface configured to:

communicate with one or more external devices, provide a physical location of the electronic device as location data, or both,

the network interface supporting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, GPS, or any combination thereof.

7. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the base further comprises one or more electrode openings such that when the set of electrodes are coupled to the base, the set of electrodes protrude from the inner surface of the base via the one or more electrode openings of the base.

8. The electronic device of claim 7 , further comprising:

a sensor printed circuit board (PCB) provided within the housing, the sensor PCB including PCB contacts and configured to electrically connect the PCB contacts to the one or more sensors,

wherein the housing further includes one or more housing openings such that when the housing is coupled to the base, the set of electrodes protruding from the inner surface of the base are electrically connected to the PCB contacts via the one or more housing openings.

9. The electronic device of claim 8 , further comprising:

one or more metal connectors disposed between the PCB contacts and the set of electrodes protruding from the inner surface of the base, the one or more metal connectors configured to (i) facilitate an electrical connection between the PCB contacts and the set of electrodes and (ii) secure the base to the set of electrodes protruding from the inner surface of the base.

10. The electronic device of claim 8 , further comprising:

a main PCB provided within the housing; and

a mechanical holder provided within the housing and configured to secure the battery such that the battery is sandwiched between the sensor PCB and the main PCB.

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , further comprising:

a flexible PCB connector configured to electrically connect the main PCB to the sensor PCB.

12. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the housing is removably coupled to the base via a pressure fit between the housing and the base, a latch between the housing and the base, or a fastener between the housing and the base.

13. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the housing is waterproof, the base is waterproof, the set of electrodes is waterproof, or any combination thereof.

14. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the generated physiological data includes a glucose level of the user, a blood pressure of the user, a blood oxygen level of the user, a heartrate of the user, an electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform of the user, a level of skin moisture of the user, a temperature of the user, an activity level of the user, a body position of the user, an image of a skin of the user, a thermal image of the skin of the user, or any combination thereof.

15. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the housing is configured to removably couple to a charging station such that when the housing is coupled to the charging station, the housing is not coupled to the base.

16. The electronic device of claim 15 , wherein the housing further includes one or more charging ports configured to removably couple to the charging station, the one or more charging ports configured to facilitate charging of the battery by the charging station.

17. The electronic device of claim 15 , wherein the battery is wirelessly charged by the charging station when the housing is coupled to the charging station.

The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors include a temperature sensor, a pulse oximeter, an accelerometer, an impedance spectroscopy measurement unit, optical array sensors, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, an impedance measurement unit, a radar sensor, or a combination thereof.

19. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the set of electrodes include electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes.

20. The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of metal connectors configured to hold the base in place when the set of electrodes are coupled to the base, the plurality of metal connectors having a snap fit connection with the set of electrodes.
