Abstract

The present invention relates to compositions for use in refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heat pump systems wherein the composition comprises a fluoroolefin and at least one other component. The compositions of the present invention are useful in processes for producing cooling or heat, as heat transfer fluids, foam blowing agents, aerosol propellants, and fire suppression and fire extinguishing agents.

Claims (20)

1. A composition comprising HFC-1234yf and trans-HFC-1234ze, and at least one tracer compound comprising HFC-245cb.

2. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising HFC-1243zf.

3. The composition of claim 2 , wherein the at least one tracer compounds further comprises at least one tracer compound selected from the group consisting of CF 3 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CF(CF 3 ) 2 , cyclo-CF(CF 3 )CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, trans-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, cis-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, CHF 3 , CH 2 FCH 3 , CHF 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CF 2 CH 2 F, CHF 2 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CHF 2 , CHF 2 CF 2 CH 3 , CF 3 CHFCH 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CF 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CHFCH 3 , CH 2 FCH 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , (CF 3 ) 2 CHCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CHF 2 , CH 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , and CF 3 CHFCHFCF 2 CF 3 .

The composition of claim 1 , wherein said at least one tracer compound further comprises at least one tracer compound selected from the group consisting of hydrofluorocarbons, deuterated hydrocarbons, deuterated hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, fluoroethers, brominated compounds, iodated compounds, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, nitrous oxide, and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 4 , wherein said at least one tracer compound further comprises at least one tracer compound selected from the group consisting of CD 3 CD 3 , CD 3 CD 2 CD 3 , CD 2 F 2 , CF 3 CD 2 CF 3 , CD 2 FCF 3 , CD 3 CF 3 , CDF 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CDFCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CDF 2 , CDF 2 CDF 2 , CF 3 CF 2 CD 3 , CF 3 CD 2 CH 3 , CF 2 CH 2 CD 3 , CF 3 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CF(CF 3 ) 2 , cyclo-CF(CF 3 )CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, trans-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, cis-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, CF 3 OCHF 2 , CF 3 OCH 2 F, CF 3 OCH 3 , CF 3 OCHFCF 3 , CF 3 OCH 2 CF 3 , CF 3 OCH 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CH 2 OCHF 2 , CH 3 OCF 2 CF 3 , CH 3 CF 2 OCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CF 2 OCHFCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CF 2 OCF(CF 3 )CF 2 OCHFCF 3 , CHF 3 , CH 2 FCH 3 , CHF 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CF 2 CH 2 F, CHF 2 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CHF 2 , CHF 2 CF 2 CH 3 , CF 3 CHFCH 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CF 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CHFCH 3 , CH 2 FCH 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , (CF 3 ) 2 CHCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CHF 2 , CH 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CHFCHFCF 2 CF 3 , perfluoromethylcyclopentane, perfluoromethylcyclohexane, perfluorodimethylcyclohexane (ortho, meta, or para), perfluoroethylcyclohexane, perfluoroindan, perfluorotrimethylcyclohexane and isomers thereof, perfluoroisopropylcyclohexane, cis-perfluorodecalin, trans-perfluorodecalin, cis- or trans-perfluoromethyldecalin and isomers thereof, CH 3 Br, CH 2 FBr, CHF 2 Br, CHFBr 2 , CHBr 3 , CH 2 BrCH 3 , CHBr═CH 2 , CH 2 BrCH 2 Br, CFBr═CHF, CF 3 I, CHF 2 I, CH 2 FI, CF 2 ICH 2 F, CF 2 ICHF 2 , CF 2 ICF 2 I, C 6 F 5 I, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, acetone, n-propanal, n-butanal, methyl ethyl ketone, nitrous oxide, and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one tracer compound further comprises at least one tracer compound selected from the group consisting of CF 3 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 3 , cyclo-CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 2 —, CF 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CF(CF 3 ) 2 , cyclo-CF(CF 3 )CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, trans-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, cis-cyclo-CF 2 CF(CF 3 )CF(CF 3 )CF 2 —, CHF 3 , CH 2 FCH 3 , CHF 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CF 2 CHF 2 , CF 3 CF 2 CH 2 F, CHF 2 CHFCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CHF 2 , CHF 2 CF 2 CH 3 , CF 3 CHFCH 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CF 2 CH 3 , CH 3 CHFCH 3 , CH 2 FCH 2 CH 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , (CF 3 ) 2 CHCF 3 , CF 3 CH 2 CF 2 CF 3 , CHF 2 CF 2 CF 2 CHF 2 , CH 3 CF 2 CF 2 CF 3 , and CF 3 CHFCHFCF 2 CF 3 .

7. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising at least one lubricant selected from the group consisting of polyol esters, polyalkylene glycols, polyvinyl ethers, mineral oil, alkylbenzenes, synthetic paraffins, synthetic napthenes, and poly(alpha)olefins.

8. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising a stabilizer, water scavenger, or odor masking agent.

9. The composition of claim 8 , wherein said stabilizer is selected from the group consisting of nitromethane, hindered phenols, hydroxylamines, thiols, phosphites and lactones.

The composition of claim 1 , further comprising at least one ultra-violet fluorescent dye selected from the group consisting of naphthalimides, perylenes, coumarins, anthracenes, phenanthracenes, xanthenes, thioxanthenes, naphthoxanthenes, fluoresceins, derivatives of said dye and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 1 , comprising HFC-1234yf, trans-HFC-1234ze, HFC-245cb, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of HFC-23, HFC-161, HFC-227ca, HFC-236cb, HFC-236ea, HFC-254cb, HFC-254eb, HFC-263fb, HFC-272ca, HFC-281ea, HFC-281fa, HFC-329mmz, HFC-338mf, HFC-338pcc, HFC-347s, HFC-43-10mee.

The composition of claim 1 , comprising HFC-1234yf, trans-HFC-1234ze, HFC-245cb, HFC-1243zf, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of HFC-23, HFC-161, HFC-227ca, HFC-236cb, HFC-236ea, HFC-254cb, HFC-254eb, HFC-263fb, HFC-272ca, HFC-281ea, HFC-281fa, HFC-329mmz, HFC-338mf, HFC-338pcc, HFC-347s, and HFC-43-10mee.

13. The composition of claim 1 , comprising HFC-1234yf, trans-HFC-1234ze, HFC-245cb, and at least one compounds selected from the group consisting of HFC-23, HFC-161, HFC-245fa, HFC-254cb, HFC-254eb, and HFC-263fb.

14. The composition of claim 1 , comprising HFC-1234yf, trans-HFC-1234ze, HFC-245cb, HFC-1243zf, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of HFC-23, HFC-161, HFC-245fa, HFC-254cb, HFC-254eb, and HFC-263fb.

15. A method of producing cooling, said method comprising evaporating the composition of claim 1 in the vicinity of a body to be cooled and thereafter condensing said composition.

16. A method of producing heat, said method comprising condensing the composition of claim 1 in the vicinity of a body to be heated and thereafter evaporating said composition.

17. A method of using the composition of claim 1 as a heat transfer fluid composition, said process comprising comprises transporting said composition from a heat source to a heat sink.

A method for replacing a high GWP refrigerant in a refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus, wherein said high GWP refrigerant is selected from the group consisting of R134a, R22, R124, R12, R410A, R407C, R417A, R422A, R507A, R502, and R404A, said method comprising providing the composition of claim 1 to said refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus that uses, used or is designed to use said high GWP refrigerant.

19. A refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus containing a composition of claim 1 .

20. The refrigeration, air-conditioning, or heat pump apparatus of claim 19 comprising a mobile air-conditioning apparatus.
