Abstract

Tubes (e.g., catheters, endotracheal or chest tubes and bypass grafts) are provided, comprising a catheter and a plurality of sensors.

Claims (14)

1. A medical tube comprising:

a. a unique tube identifying number for the medical tube; and

b. a plurality of sensors located on or within the medical tube, each of the plurality of sensors having a sensor identifying number, where the sensor identifying number is either (i) unique to each sensor; or (ii) unique to each sensor of a specific measuring type.

2. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the sensor of a specific measuring type is selected from the group consisting of acceleration sensors, tilt sensors, vibration sensors, shock sensors, pressure sensors, contact sensors, position sensors, chemical sensors, tissue metabolic sensors, mechanical stress sensors and temperature sensors.

3. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the sensor identifying number is unique to each sensor.

4. The medical tube of claim 3 wherein each unique identification number is specifically associated with a position on the medical tube.

5. The medical tube of claim 3 wherein each unique identification number is specifically associated with a position in the medical tube.

6. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the sensor identifying number is unique to each sensor of a specific measuring type selected from the group consisting of acceleration sensors, tilt sensors, vibration sensors, shock sensors, pressure sensors, contact sensors, position sensors, chemical sensors, tissue metabolic sensors, mechanical stress sensors and temperature sensors.

7. The medical tube of claim 6 wherein each unique identification number is specifically associated with a position on the medical tube.

8. The medical tube of claim 6 wherein each unique identification number is specifically associated with a position in the medical tube.

9. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the medical tube is a catheter.

10. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the medical tube is a Foley catheter.

11. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the medical tube is a central venous catheter.

12. The medical tube of claim 1 wherein the medical tube is a drainage tube.
