Abstract

Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, comprising the steps of, or structure for, storing a plurality of expert profiles in a database, each of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information associated with a person having knowledge in a particular category, subject or topic; receiving search criteria over a network from a query source; selecting at least one of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information that satisfy the search criteria; and transmitting expert profile data for each of the selected expert profiles to the remote search engine, the expert profile data comprising data that defines a displayable representation of a corresponding expert profile, the expert profile data further comprising data that facilitates a client-initiated, real-time communication session over the network with a person associated with the corresponding expert profile.

Claims (72)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

storing topic data for a plurality of topics and profile data for a plurality of profiles, wherein topics are associated with one or more corresponding profiles;

receiving search criteria;

determining that the search criteria matches a topic associated with a set of profiles;

identifying one or more active profiles of the set of profiles;

associating one or more real-time interaction options with the set of profiles;

tracking revenue associated with the plurality of profiles, wherein a ranking for a profile is based on revenue associated with the profile, and wherein at least one device is associated with the profile;

generating status data, wherein the status data corresponds to the set of profiles, and wherein when the status data is received at a remote search engine, the status data facilitates generating an ordered listing of the set of profiles in an ordered listing of search results at the remote search engine;

transmitting the status data; and

receiving, in response to the transmitting the status data, data corresponding to a selection of an interactive element associated with the status data, wherein the selection of the interactive element facilitates a real-time interaction option among two or more devices.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the status data includes determining rankings for the set of profiles.

3. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the ordered listing is based on the revenue associated with the profile.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the status data further comprises sorting the set of profiles according to rankings of the set of profiles.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the status data comprises transmitting the status data to the remote search engine to facilitate the ordered listing of the set of profiles.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating the ranking for the profile; and

sorting the set of profiles according to rankings for the set of profiles.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the status data is dynamically modifiable.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more real-time interaction options include communication logic configured to facilitate a real-time communication session.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more real-time interaction options include text messaging sessions, internet telephony sessions, or real-time chat sessions, and wherein real-time chat sessions include audio, video, or textual communication.

10. The method of claim 1 , the one or more active profiles of the set of profiles are identified as active based on a determination that a corresponding individual for the one or more active profiles is available for a real-time communication session.

11. A system comprising:

a memory storing topic data for a plurality of topics and profile data for a plurality of profiles, wherein topics are associated with one or more corresponding profiles; and

one or more processors coupled to the memory and configured to perform operations comprising:

receiving search criteria;

determining that the search criteria matches a topic associated with a set of profiles;

identifying one or more active profiles of the set of profiles;

associating one or more real-time interaction options with the set of profiles;

tracking revenue associated with the plurality of profiles, wherein a ranking for a profile is based on revenue associated with the profile, and wherein at least one device is associated with the profile;

generating status data, wherein the status data corresponds to the set of profiles, and wherein when the status data is received at a remote search engine, the status data facilitates generating an ordered listing of the set of profiles in an ordered listing of search results at the remote search engine;

transmitting the status data; and

receiving, in response to the transmitting the status data, data corresponding to a selection of an interactive element associated with the status data, wherein the selection of the interactive element facilitates a real-time interaction option among two or more devices.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the status data includes determining rankings for the set of profiles.

13. The system of claim 11 ,

wherein the ordered listing is based on the revenue associated with the profile.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the status data further comprises sorting the set of profiles according to the ranking of the set of profiles.

15. The system of claim 11

wherein the ordered listing is based on the revenue associated with the profile.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein generating the status data further comprises sorting the set of profiles according to the ranking of the set of profiles.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein transmitting the status data comprises transmitting the status data to the remote search engine to facilitate the ordered listing of the set of profiles.

18. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:

generating the ranking for the profile; and

sorting the set of profiles according to rankings for the set of profiles.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more real-time interaction options include text messaging sessions, internet telephony sessions, or real-time chat sessions, and wherein real-time chat sessions include audio, video, or textual communication.

20. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a device, cause the device to perform operations comprising:

storing topic data for a plurality of topics and profile data for a plurality of profiles, wherein topics are associated with one or more corresponding profiles;

receiving search criteria;

determining that the search criteria matches a topic associated with a set of profiles;

identifying one or more active profiles of the set of profiles;

associating one or more real-time interaction options with the set of profiles;

tracking revenue associated with the plurality of profiles, wherein a ranking for a profile is based on revenue associated with the profile, and wherein at least one device is associated with the profile;

generating status data, wherein the status data corresponds to the set of profiles, and wherein when the status data is received at a remote search engine, the status data facilitates generating an ordered listing of the set of profiles in an ordered listing of search results at the remote search engine;

transmitting the status data; and

receiving, in response to the transmitting the status data, data corresponding to a selection of an interactive element associated with the status data, wherein the selection of the interactive element facilitates a real-time interaction option among two or more devices.
