Amino acid derivatives and their uses
Provided are compounds described by the Formula I: wherein: R 1 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic group having from 5 to 22 carbon atoms; R 2 is selected from the group consisting of the functional groups: and salts thererof; n is from 0 to 4; and R 3 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. Also provided are compositions comprising, and methods of use of, the compounds of the present invention.
1. A method of improving structural stability of an amino acid derivative in an alcohol free composition or a composition comprising a reduced level of alcohol comprising the steps of:
i. adding to a composition a synthetic amino acid derivative compound selected from the group consisting of:
and mixtures thereof,
ii. storing the composition for a length of storage at 50° C., and
iii. determining the amount of the compound retained in the composition after the length of storage out to 8 weeks by HPLC,
wherein the composition is alcohol free or comprises about 10% v/v or less of alcohol, and further wherein the compound has a stability in the composition for the length of storage which is greater than the stability of the amino acid derivative in the form of lauryl arginine ethyl ester stored in the composition as described in steps ii and iii and still further wherein the compound results in no more than a one log reduction in S. mutans.
