Abstract

A filter arrangement for an aquarium is disclosed. The filter arrangement can include a filter housing assembly, a pump assembly, and a transfer tube assembly. In one aspect, the housing assembly and the pump assembly are separately constructed assemblies that are connected to each other via a first dampening member to prevent vibration and sound from being transmitted from the pump assembly to the filter housing assembly. The filter arrangement can further include a second dampening member connecting the pump assembly with the transfer tube assembly to further prevent vibration and sound from being transmitted from the pump assembly to the filter housing assembly. A third dampening member can be provided at a location where the transfer tube assembly is supported within the filter housing assembly to further isolate vibration and sound from being transmitted from the pump assembly to the filter housing assembly via the transfer tube assembly.

Claims (30)

1. A filter arrangement for an aquarium, the filter arrangement comprising:

a) a housing assembly including a filter housing defining an interior volume within which a filter cartridge is disposed;

(i) the housing including a first pair of projections;

b) a pump assembly including a pump disposed within a pump housing having an inlet and an outlet; the pump having a cover;

(i) the cover including a second pair of projections;

c) first and second elastomeric dampening members connecting the filter housing to the pump assembly;

(i) wherein the first pair of projections is received at one end of the first and second elastomeric dampening members, and the second pair of projections is received at an opposite end of the first and second elastomeric dampening members.

2. The filter arrangement of claim 1 wherein the first and second elastomeric dampening members are cylindrical tubular members.

3. The filter arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the first and second elastomeric dampening members have a durometer in a range of between 30 and 90 on an A-scale, inclusive.

4. A filter arrangement for an aquarium, the filter arrangement comprising:

a) a housing assembly including a filter housing defining an interior volume within which a filter cartridge is disposed;

(i) the housing holding a first pair of magnets;

b) a pump assembly including a pump disposed within a pump housing having an inlet and an outlet; the pump having a cover;

(i) the cover including a second pair of magnets;

c) an elastomeric dampening member sandwiched between the filter housing and the cover;

(i) wherein the first pair of magnets and second pair of magnets are attracted to each other to secure the elastomeric dampening member therebetween.

5. The filter arrangement of claim 4 wherein the elastomeric dampening member has a knurled surface.

6. The filter arrangement of claim 4 , wherein the elastomeric dampening member has a durometer in a range of between 30 and 90 on an A-scale, inclusive.

7. A filter arrangement for an aquarium, the filter arrangement comprising:

a) a housing assembly including a filter housing defining an interior volume within which a filter cartridge is disposed;

(i) the housing having a pair of projections;

b) a pump assembly including a pump disposed within a pump housing having an inlet and an outlet; the pump having a cover;

(i) the cover including an opening;

c) an elastomeric dampening member having a central opening, the elastomeric dampening member connecting the filter housing and the cover;

(i) wherein the elastomeric dampening member is held within the opening of the cover, and the pair of projections extends into the central opening of the elastomeric dampening member.

8. The filter arrangement of claim 7 wherein the elastomeric dampening member comprises a grommet having the central opening and a circumferential channel.

9. The filter arrangement of claim 7 wherein the projections each has a latch and hook received through the central opening.

10. The filter arrangement of claim 8 wherein the cover is received by the circumferential channel of the grommet.

11. The filter arrangement of claim 7 wherein there are two elastomeric dampening members connecting the filter housing and the cover.

12. The filter arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the elastomeric dampening member has a durometer in a range of between 30 and 90 on an A-scale, inclusive.
