Abstract

A method of wireless communication including a base station transmitting a preamble including information indicating a sector identifier and an antenna port value. The base station further transmits a pilot sequence, wherein the pilot sequence and the location of the pilot sequence are based on the sector identifier and on the antenna port value. A base station configured to perform the method is also disclosed. A corresponding subscriber station configured to receive the preamble and pilot sequence is also disclosed, as well as a subscriber station method.

Claims (18)

1. A base station for use in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

a transmitter; and

at least a first antenna port and a second antenna port;

wherein the transmitter, the at least the first antenna port and the second antenna port are operable to:

transmit an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal, wherein the OFDM signal corresponds to at least one slot, wherein a slot of the OFDM signal includes a plurality of subcarriers and a plurality of symbols, wherein the slot includes a first antenna port pilot on at least a first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and a second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, and a second antenna port pilot on at least the first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and the second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in adjacent symbols in time, respectively, wherein the adjacent symbols in time are transmitted after a first symbol of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are separated by a plurality of adjacent subcarriers and the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are different than all of the plurality of adjacent subcarriers in the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in fewer than all of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted via exactly four subcarriers, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot include a pseudo-random sequence based on at least a cell ID of the base station; and

transmit a primary signal and a secondary signal for cell search, wherein the primary signal and the secondary signal are derived from Zadoff-Chu sequences, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot do not overlap with the primary signal and the secondary signal;

wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot at least in part enable data recovery from the OFDM signal.

2. The base station of claim 1 , wherein the first antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot and the second antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot.

3. A method performed by a base station of a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal, wherein the OFDM signal corresponds to at least one slot, wherein a slot of the OFDM signal includes a plurality of subcarriers and a plurality of symbols, wherein the slot includes a first antenna port pilot on at least a first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and a second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, and a second antenna port pilot on at least the first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and the second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in adjacent symbols in time, respectively, wherein the adjacent symbols in time are transmitted after a first symbol of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are separated by a plurality of adjacent subcarriers and the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are different than all of the plurality of adjacent subcarriers in the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in fewer than all of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted via exactly four subcarriers, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot include a pseudo-random sequence based on at least a cell ID of the base station; and

transmitting a primary signal and a secondary signal for cell search, wherein the primary signal and the secondary signal are derived from Zadoff-Chu sequences, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot do not overlap with the primary signal and the secondary signal;

wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot at least in part enable data recovery from the OFDM signal.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the first antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot and the second antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot.

5. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising executable code stored thereon, wherein the executable code, when executed by a processor, causes an apparatus to at least:

transmit an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal, wherein the OFDM signal corresponds to at least one slot, wherein a slot of the OFDM signal includes a plurality of subcarriers and a plurality of symbols, wherein the slot includes a first antenna port pilot on at least a first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and a second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, and a second antenna port pilot on at least the first subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers and the second subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in adjacent symbols in time, respectively, wherein the adjacent symbols in time are transmitted after a first symbol of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are separated by a plurality of adjacent subcarriers and the first subcarrier and the second subcarrier are different than all of the plurality of adjacent subcarriers in the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted in fewer than all of the plurality of symbols of the slot, wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot are transmitted via exactly four subcarriers, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot include a pseudo-random sequence based on at least a cell ID of the base station; and

transmit a primary signal and a secondary signal for cell search, wherein the primary signal and the secondary signal are derived from Zadoff-Chu sequences, and wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot do not overlap with the primary signal and the secondary signal;

wherein the first antenna port pilot and the second antenna port pilot at least in part enable data recovery from the OFDM signal.

6. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the first antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot and the second antenna port pilot is present on exactly two symbols of the slot.
