Abstract

An interlocking baked food brick has a top surface with a first stud and a bottom surface with a first recess. The first stud is aligned with the first recess. When one brick is placed on another brick, the first stud of the lower brick fits into the first recess of the upper brick to form an interlocking structure. The interlocking baked food brick may be a waffle or a cake. The interlocking baked food brick may be made in a heated mold. The mold may have a top plate with a base cavity and a recess projection located in the base cavity. The bottom plate may have a bottom cavity and a stud cavity located in the bottom cavity. The recess projection may be aligned with the stud cavity.

Claims (18)

1. An interlocking baked food brick mold for receiving a cooperating batter that expands when cooked, the mold comprising:

a) a top plate comprising:

1) a recessed base cavity comprising a first recess projection; and

2) a top heater channel;

b) a bottom plate comprising:

1) a body cavity comprising a first stud cavity; and

2) a bottom heater channel; and

c) a hinge joining said top plate to said bottom plate

wherein:

d) said first stud cavity is aligned with said first recess projection;

e) said first stud cavity is dimensioned to form a first stud in a first interlocking baked food brick that will fit within a first recess of a second interlocking baked food brick formed by said first recess projection;

f) a chamber is defined by said recessed base cavity of said top plate and said body cavity of said bottom plate when said top plate is closed on said bottom plate, wherein said chamber projects upwardly, with respect to an interface between said top plate and said bottom plate, into said top plate surrounding said first recess projection and projects downwardly, with respect to said interface, into said bottom plate; and

g) said recessed base cavity of said top plate is adapted to receive adequate batter to fill said mold when the batter is put in said body cavity of said bottom plate and said top plate is closed on said bottom plate and the batter expands into said recessed base cavity of said top plate.

2. The interlocking baked food brick mold of claim 1 wherein said first recess projection comprises a column that is tapered at an angle of about 4°.

3. The interlocking baked food brick mold of claim 1 wherein a plate gap is formed between a bottom edge of said base cavity and a top edge of said body cavity when said top plate is closed on said bottom plate.

4. The interlocking baked food brick mold of claim 1 wherein said base cavity is joined to said first recess projection by a rounded corner with a longitudinal radius of curvature of about 1.9 mm.

5. The interlocking baked food brick mold of claim 1 wherein a maximum distance from any point in said chamber to a closest surface of the same said chamber to said any point is about 8 mm.

6. The interlocking baked food brick mold of claim 1 wherein said body cavity of said bottom plate is adapted to receive adequate batter to fill the mold when the batter is put in said recessed base cavity of said top plate and said bottom plate is closed on said top plate and the batter expands.
