Abstract

A lottery gaming system that enables a player to select any one of a plurality of different geographic areas in which they predict that a designated winning lottery ticket will be purchased.

Claims (45)

1. A lottery gaming system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions, that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

for a play of a lottery game:

determine a player set of symbols;

determine one of a plurality of different geographic areas to be a player selected geographic area for a player, the player selected geographic area comprising a geographic area where the player predicts a designated winning lottery ticket will be purchased;

generate a lottery ticket comprising an indication of the player set of symbols and an indication of the player selected geographic area;

store data associated with the lottery ticket;

cause the lottery ticket to be provided to the player, the lottery ticket comprising:

a selected symbols portion comprising the indication of the player set of symbols for the play of a lottery game, and

a selected geographic area portion comprising the indication of the player selected geographic area;

at a draw time, randomly select a quantity of winning draw symbols; and

responsive to one of a plurality of generated lottery tickets for the play of the game being the designated winning lottery ticket and that designated winning lottery ticket being purchased in the player selected geographic area, determine an award associated with the player selected geographic area to provide to the player.

2. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to require a player wager associated with the player selected geographic area.

3. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , which comprises, for the play of the lottery game, a plurality of different awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas.

The lottery gaming system of claim 3 , which, for the play of the lottery game, the different awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas are based on different quantities of lottery tickets for the play of the lottery game purchased in the plurality of different geographic areas.

5. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the award associated with the player selected geographic area is based on a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in the player selected geographic area.

The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the award associated with the player selected geographic area is based on a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in the player selected geographic area relative to a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in an other one of the plurality of different geographic areas.

7. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to communicate data to cause a display device to display a plurality of different estimated awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas.

8. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the designated winning lottery ticket is for a highest winnable award for the play of the lottery game.

9. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the player set of symbols are selectable by a player.

10. The lottery gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the determination of one of the plurality of different geographic areas to be the player selected geographic area is based on a player selection of one of the different geographic areas.

11. A lottery ticket providable to a player, the lottery ticket comprising:

a selected symbols portion comprising an indication of a quantity of symbols from a plurality of different symbols that form a player set of symbols for a play of a lottery game;

a selected geographic area portion comprising an indication of a player selected geographic area from a plurality of different geographic areas where the play of the lottery game occurs, wherein the player selected geographic area comprises one of the plurality of different geographic areas where the player predicts a designated winning lottery ticket will be purchased, and wherein the player selected geographic area is associated with one of a plurality of different awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas; and

a ticket identification portion comprising an indication of an identification of the lottery ticket.

12. The lottery ticket of claim 11 , wherein the selected symbols portion, the selected geographic area portion, and the ticket identification portion are on a substrate.

13. The lottery ticket of claim 11 , wherein the selected symbols portion, the selected geographic area portion, and the ticket identification portion are displayable via a display device of a mobile device.

14. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:

for a play of a lottery game by a player:

determining, via a processor, a player set of symbols;

determining, via the processor, one of a plurality of different geographic areas to be a player selected geographic area, wherein the player selected geographic area comprises a geographic area where the player predicts a designated winning lottery ticket will be purchased;

generating, via the processor, a lottery ticket comprising an indication of the player set of symbols and an indication of the player selected geographic area;

storing, via the processor and a memory device, data associated with the lottery ticket;

causing the lottery ticket to be provided to the player, the lottery ticket comprising:

a selected symbols portion comprising the indication of the player set of symbols for the play of a lottery game, and

a selected geographic area portion comprising the indication of the player selected geographic area;

at a draw time, randomly selecting, via the processor, a quantity of winning draw symbols; and

responsive to one of a plurality of generated lottery tickets for the play of the game being the designated winning lottery ticket and that designated winning lottery ticket being purchased in the player selected geographic area, determining, via the processor, an award associated with the player selected geographic area to provide the player.

The method of claim 14 , wherein a plurality of different awards are associated with the plurality of different geographic areas, and wherein, for the play of the lottery game, the different awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas are based on different quantities of lottery tickets for the play of the lottery game purchased in the plurality of different geographic areas.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the award associated with the player selected geographic area is based on a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in the player selected geographic area.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the award associated with the player selected geographic area is based on a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in the player selected geographic area relative to a quantity of lottery tickets purchased in an other one of the plurality of different geographic areas.

18. The method of claim 14 , which comprises, causing the processor to communicate data to cause a display device to display a plurality of different estimated awards associated with the plurality of different geographic areas.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the gaming system is in communication with a mobile device of the player and which comprises providing the lottery ticket via the mobile device of the player.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein determining one of the plurality of different geographic areas to be the player selected geographic area comprises determining a selection by the player of the player selected geographic area.
