Abstract

Embodiments described herein include a method of receiving, by a moving assisting vehicle, a calibration assistance request related to a moving ego vehicle that requested assistance in collaborative calibration of a sensor deployed on the moving ego vehicle. The method further includes analyzing the calibration assistance request to extract at least one of a schedule or an assistance route associated with the requested assistance. The method includes communicating with the moving ego vehicle about a desired location relative to the position of the moving ego vehicle for the moving assisting vehicle to be in order to assist the sensor to acquire information of a target present on the moving assisting vehicle. The method includes facilitating to drive the moving assisting vehicle to reach the desired location to achieve the collaborative calibration of the sensor on the moving ego vehicle.

Claims (59)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a moving assisting vehicle, a calibration assistance request related to a moving ego vehicle that requested assistance in collaborative calibration of a sensor deployed on the moving ego vehicle, the calibration assistance request including at least one of a position of the moving ego vehicle and a configuration of the sensor with respect to the moving ego vehicle;

analyzing, by the moving assisting vehicle, the calibration assistance request to extract at least one of a schedule or an assistance route associated with the requested assistance;

communicating with the moving ego vehicle about a desired location relative to the position of the moving ego vehicle for the moving assisting vehicle to be to assist the sensor to acquire information of a target present on the moving assisting vehicle to calibrate the sensor; and

facilitating to drive the moving assisting vehicle to reach the desired location to achieve the collaborative calibration of the sensor on the moving ego vehicle.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the desired location is provided so that the target on the moving assisting vehicle is in a field of view of the sensor when the moving assisting vehicle arrives at the desired location.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein a need to calibrate the sensor is determined by at least one of

a static schedule with an interval in time;

a dynamic schedule determined based on an assessment of an adaptive situation of information sensed by the sensor; or

a combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is a member of a fleet that the moving ego vehicle belongs to as a member.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is selected based on the position of the moving ego vehicle.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein:

the configuration of the sensor is a first configuration; and

the desired location is determined based on the position of the moving ego vehicle, the first configuration, and a second configuration associated with the target with respect to the moving assisting vehicle.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request is

sent to a management center to locate the moving assisting vehicle of a plurality of moving vehicles monitored by the management center; or

broadcast to one or more moving vehicles from the plurality of moving vehicles to request assistance in the collaborative calibration.

8. Machine readable non-transitory medium having information recorded thereon for sensor calibration, wherein the information, when read by the machine, causes the machine to perform:

receiving, by a moving assisting vehicle, a calibration assistance request related to a moving ego vehicle that requested assistance in collaborative calibration of a sensor deployed on the moving ego vehicle, the calibration assistance request including at least one of a position of the moving ego vehicle and a configuration of the sensor with respect to the moving ego vehicle;

analyzing, by the moving assisting vehicle, the calibration assistance request to extract at least one of a schedule or an assistance route associated with the requested assistance;

communicating with the moving ego vehicle about a desired location relative to the position of the moving ego vehicle for the moving assisting vehicle to be in order to assist the sensor to acquire information of a target present on the moving assisting vehicle to calibrate the sensor; and

facilitating to drive the moving assisting vehicle to reach the desired location to achieve the collaborative calibration of the sensor on the moving ego vehicle.

9. The medium of claim 8 , wherein:

the desired location is provided so that the target on the moving assisting vehicle is in a field of view of the sensor the moving assisting vehicle arrives at the desired location.

10. The medium of claim 9 , wherein a need to calibrate the sensor is determined by at least one of

a static schedule with an interval in time;

a dynamic schedule determined based on an assessment of an adaptive situation of information sensed by the sensor; or

a combination thereof.

11. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is a member of a fleet that the moving ego vehicle belongs to as a member.

12. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is selected based on the position of the moving ego vehicle.

13. The medium of claim 12 , wherein:

the configuration of the sensor is a first configuration; and

the desired location is determined based on the position of the moving ego vehicle, the first configuration, and a second configuration associated with the target with respect to the moving assisting vehicle.

14. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the request is

sent to a management center to locate the moving assisting vehicle of a plurality of moving vehicles monitored by the management center; or

broadcast to one or more moving vehicles from the plurality of moving vehicles to request assistance in the collaborative calibration.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor operatively coupled to the memory, the processor configured to:

receive, at a moving assisting vehicle, a calibration assistance request related to a moving ego vehicle that requested assistance in collaborative calibration of a sensor deployed on the moving ego vehicle, the calibration assistance request including at least one of a position of the moving ego vehicle and a configuration of the sensor with respect to the moving ego vehicle;

analyze the calibration assistance request to extract at least one of a schedule or an assistance route associated with the requested assistance;

communicate with the moving ego vehicle about a desired location relative to the position of the moving ego vehicle for the moving assisting vehicle to be in order to assist the sensor to acquire information of a target present on the moving assisting vehicle to calibrate the sensor; and

facilitate to drive the moving assisting vehicle to reach the desired location to achieve the collaborative calibration of the sensor on the moving ego vehicle.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein:

the desired location is provided so that the target on the moving assisting vehicle is in a field of view of the sensor the moving assisting vehicle arrives at the desired location.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein a need to calibrate the sensor is determined by at least one of

a static schedule with an interval in time;

a dynamic schedule determined based on an assessment of an adaptive situation of information sensed by the sensor; or

a combination thereof.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is a member of a fleet that the moving ego vehicle belongs to as a member.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the moving assisting vehicle is selected based on the position of the moving ego vehicle.
