Abstract

Disclosed are laminoplasty devices and systems, kits that include such laminoplasty devices or systems or components thereof; and methods of assembling and using such laminoplasty devices and systems. In particular, articulating laminoplasty devices are provided that allow lamina plates to be adjusted angularly and transitionally with respect to a cage connecting the lamina plates. Also provided are laminoplasty plates that are configured so as to be assembled with a bone graft housing, and which provide an opening configured to facilitate bone graft insertion into the housing. Further provided are expandable laminoplasty fixation systems that include a lateral mass plate, a lamina plate and a set screw that when screwed and unscrewed, allows one to contract and expand the plates with respect to one another.

Claims (11)

1. A laminoplasty plate, comprising:

a medial portion having one or more medial screw holes;

a lateral portion having one or more lateral screw holes; and

a central portion configured to allow the medial portion and the lateral portion to be moved relative to one another to a desired offset position,

wherein the central portion includes a locking element configured to prevent movement of the medial and lateral portions relative to one another when the locking element is locked,

wherein the central portion includes a pair of pivoting bars pivotably coupled to two protruding arms extending from the medial portion at a first end and to two protruding arms extending from the lateral portion at a second end, and

wherein the locking element includes:

two plates extending transverse to the pair of pivoting bars and disposed on opposite sides of the pair of pivoting bars; and

a screw extending through the two plates and configured to clamp the two plates down onto the pair of pivoting bars when the screw is in a locked position.

2. The laminoplasty plate of claim 1 , wherein central portion includes mating dovetail features extending from the medial portion and the lateral portion, and wherein the mating dovetail features allow the medial portion and the lateral portion to slide relative to one another.

3. The laminoplasty plate of claim 2 , wherein the central portion further includes a pin extending from one of the medial portion or the lateral portion into a slot formed in the other one of the medial portion or lateral portion, and wherein the pin and the slot are configured to limit the sliding of the medial portion and the lateral portion.
