Abstract

A catheter device having a distal tube portion having a longitudinal axis and a tube wall comprising at least one side port; and a guide tip mounted on the distal tube portion, the guide tip defining: a unitary body having an outer wall, and a plurality of indentations in the outer wall, wherein the indentations are oriented substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis, and wherein each indentation extends from a distal-most end of the guide tip to a proximal region of the guide tip.

Claims (26)

1 . A catheter device comprising:

a distal tube portion having a longitudinal axis and a tube wall comprising at least one side port; and

a guide tip mounted on the distal tube portion, the guide tip defining:

a unitary body having an outer wall, and

a plurality of indentations in the outer wall, wherein the indentations are oriented substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis, and wherein each indentation extends from a distal-most end of the guide tip to a proximal region of the guide tip.

2 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations extends along a substantial length of the guide tip in a proximal-to-distal direction.

3 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations defines an axial length smaller than an overall axial length of the guide tip.

4 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations defines a width that varies along an axial length thereof.

5 . The catheter device of claim 4 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations defines a width at a distal region thereof that is greater than a width at a proximal region thereof.

6 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations defines a substantially arcuate surface.

7 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations defines a height with respect to the outer wall that varies along an axial length of the indentation.

8 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of indentations includes 4 or more equally-spaced indentations.

9 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of indentations has a uniform shape.

10 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of indentations is evenly spaced around a circumference of the guide tip.

11 . The catheter device of claim 1 , comprising a first side port and a second side port, wherein the second side port is located distal to the first side port and being longitudinally and radially offset from the first side port.

12 . The catheter device of claim 11 , further comprising a first radiopaque marker located longitudinally between the first side port and the second side port, and a second radiopaque marker positioned distal to the second side port.

13 . The catheter device of claim 12 , wherein the first side port and the second side port are radially offset for about 180° degrees from each other.

14 . The catheter device of claim 1 , further comprising a radiopaque marker affixed on the distal tube portion in axial alignment with the at least one side port.

15 . The catheter device of claim 1 , further comprising a radiopaque marker encircling the at least one side port.

16 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one side port is beveled.

17 . The catheter device of claim 1 , wherein the guide tip is formed from a metal.

18 . A catheter device comprising:

a distal tube portion having a longitudinal axis and a tube wall comprising at least one side port; and

a guide tip coaxially mounted on the distal end of the distal tube portion, the guide tip defining:

a base portion defining a circumference and a distal-most face transverse to the longitudinal axis, and

a plurality of indentations equally spaced around the circumference of the base portion, wherein each of the indentations defines a width at a distal region thereof that is greater than a width at a proximal region thereof, and wherein each of the indentations extends from the distal-most face of the base portion.
