Abstract

Systems and methods for providing user-customized keyboard input error correction based on contextual information are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to: monitor context information; receive an input via a keyboard; and identify an error in the input, at least in part, based upon the context information.

Claims (35)

1. An Information Handling System (IHS), comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to:

monitor context information, wherein the context information comprises a hinge angle;

receive an input via a keyboard; and

identify an error in the input, at least in part, based upon the context information.

2. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises an IHS posture selected from the group consisting of: laptop, tablet, book, tent, and display.

3. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information indicates whether the IHS is coupled to a dock.

4. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a distance between the user and at least one of: the IHS, the keyboard, or a display coupled to the IHS.

5. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a type of keyboard, and wherein the type is selected from the group consisting of: a physical keyboard integrated into the IHS, a physical keyboard external to the IHS, and an on-screen keyboard.

6. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises an identification of a user operating the keyboard.

7. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises whether a user operating the keyboard is typing with one or two hands.

8. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises an identification of a software application configured to receive the input.

9. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a time of day.

10. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a physical or geographic location of the IHS.

11. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a keystroke sequence preceding a backspace, deletion, insertion, or pause.

12. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a keystroke correction following a backspace, deletion, insertion, or pause.

13. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a keystroke speed.

14. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the context information comprises a keystroke acceleration or deceleration.

15. The IHS of claim 1 , wherein the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to correct the error, at least in part, based upon the context information.

16. The IHS of claim 15 , wherein to correct the error, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to:

in response to the context information indicating a first state, perform a first operation upon the input; and

in response to the context information indicating a second state, perform a second operation upon the input, wherein the second state is different from the first state and wherein the second operation is different from the first operation.

17. The IHS of claim 16 , wherein the first and second operations are selected from the group consisting of: transposing, adding, removing, and replacing a character from the input.

18. A memory device having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by a processor of an Information Handling System (IHS), cause the IHS to:

receive an input via a keyboard;

monitor context information, wherein the context information comprises a distance between the user and at least one of: the IHS, the keyboard, or a display coupled to the IHS;

determine whether to transpose, add, remove, or replace a character from the input, at least in part, using the context information; and

modify the input based upon the determination.

19. A method, comprising:

monitoring, by an Information Handling System (IHS), context information;

receiving an input via a keyboard;

in response to the context information indicating a first state, performing a first operation upon the input; and

in response to the context information indicating a second state, performing a second operation upon the input, wherein the second state is different from the first state, wherein the first state indicates that a user is operating the keyboard with one hand and the second state indicates that the user is operating the keyboard with two hands, wherein the second operation is different from the first operation, and wherein the first and second operations are selected from the group consisting of:

transposing, adding, removing, and replacing a character from the input.
