Abstract

A wireless communication device may determine that a channel is to be used to transmit an advertisement. The wireless communication device may determine a channel-specific gain associated with transmitting the advertisement via the channel. The wireless communication device may generate the advertisement to include information identifying a channel identifier of the channel and the channel-specific gain. The wireless communication device may transmit the advertisement for locationing based on a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of the advertisement.

storing, in association with a transmitter calibration of the device and in a calibration mapping, the channel-specific gain in association with the channel identifier.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel is determined according to a schedule of transmitting individual advertisements via one of a plurality of channels within the determined channel.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel-specific gain is determined from the calibration mapping that indicates the channel-specific gain for the channel,

wherein the calibration mapping includes respective gain information for each channel of a plurality of channels that may be used to transmit the advertisement.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the channel-specific gain is associated with the RSSI reading determined during the transmitter calibration of the device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the advertisement to include the information comprises:

including the channel identifier in a header of the advertisement channel; and

including a value of the channel-specific gain in a payload of the advertisement channel.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the advertisement channel is to include an identifier of the device, to permit a locationing platform to determine a location of a wireless communication device based on a location of the device.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the advertisement channel is transmitted as a BLUETOOTH® low energy communication channel.

8. A wireless communication device, comprising:

one or more memories; and

one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memories,

configured to:

receive, via a channel, an advertisement from a beacon;

identify, from the advertisement, a channel identifier of the channel and a beacon identifier of the beacon;

determine, based on the beacon identifier and a location mapping, a location of the beacon;

determine, based on the channel identifier, a channel-specific gain associated with receiving the advertisement via the channel;

generate locationing information that includes the channel identifier, the channel-specific gain, and a measured received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of the advertisement channel;

determine a distance between a location of the wireless communication device and the location of the beacon,

wherein the distance is determined based on offsetting the channel-specific gain from the RSSI;

indicate, based on the distance, the location of the wireless communication device to a display of the wireless communication device or a locationing platform communicatively coupled to the wireless communication device; and

perform an action associated with the locationing information.

9. The wireless communication device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when determining the channel-specific gain, are configured to:

determine a channel-specific transmitter gain associated with the beacon transmitting the advertisement channel; and

determine a channel-specific receiver gain associated with the wireless communication device receiving the advertisements via the channel,

wherein the channel-specific gain is determined to include the channel-specific transmitter gain and the channel-specific receiver gain.

10. The wireless communication device of claim 9 , wherein the channel-specific transmitter gain is determined based on the channel-specific transmitter gain being indicated in the advertisement channel.

11. The wireless communication device of claim 9 , wherein the one or more processors, when determining the channel-specific transmitter gain, are configured to:

determine, from the advertisement channel, the beacon identifier of the beacon; and

determine, based on the beacon identifier and the channel identifier, the channel-specific transmitter gain using a beacon profile mapping,

wherein the beacon profile mapping includes a respective channel-specific transmitter gain information for the beacon and one or more other beacons.

12. The wireless communication device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when generating the locationing information, are configured to include the beacon identifier of the beacon in the locationing information, and

wherein the one or more processors, when performing the action, are to provide the locationing information to the locationing platform to indicate a location of the wireless communication device based on the beacon identifier, the channel identifier, the channel-specific gain, and the RSSI.

13. The wireless communication device of claim 8 , wherein the advertisement channel is a BLUETOOTH® low energy communication channel.

14. A tangible machine-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:

one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

receive locationing information associated with a wireless communication device;

process the locationing information to identify advertisement information associated with an advertisement channel received by the wireless communication device from a beacon;

determine, based on a channel identifier in the advertisement information, a channel used during communication of the advertisement;

determine, based on the channel identifier, a channel-specific gain associated with the communication of the advertisement channel;

determine, from the locationing information, a location of the beacon and a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of the advertisement channel;

determine, based on the location of the beacon, the RSSI, and the channel-specific gain, a location of the wireless communication device; and

perform an action associated with the location of the wireless communication device.

15. The tangible machine-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the one or more instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:

determine, from the locationing information, a wireless communication device identifier of the wireless communication device and a beacon identifier of the beacon;

determine, based on the wireless communication device identifier and a receiver gain mapping, a channel-specific receiver gain associated with the wireless communication device; and

determine, based on the beacon identifier and a transmitter gain mapping, a channel-specific transmitter gain associated with the beacon,
