Abstract

In order to reduce the HS-SCCH overhead, a fixed time allocation approach could be used. In that case, the scheduling time of each VoIP user is semi-static and thus there is no need to transmit e.g. HS-SCCH toward the UE for the initial transmissions, if the UE knows when to receive data on the HS-DSCH and what transport format is used. There are at least two ways of implementing this: 1) HS-SCCH/E-DPCCH signalling to indicate parameters of a first transmission, with subsequent transmissions using the same parameters (and HS-SCCH/E-DPCCH always sent when changes needed), or 2) fixed allocation, RRC signalling used to allocate users and tell the default transport parameters.

Claims (15)

1. A device comprising:

means for storing transport format parameters for decoding data packets received on a shared data channel carrying both fixed allocation data packets, for which a fixed allocation is configured, and normal data packets without fixed allocation;

means for receiving, on a shared signalling channel, signalling information comprising transport format parameters used on the shared data channel and for receiving an indication, in the shared signalling channel, whether the transport format parameters of the signalling information is to be stored;

means for decoding a said data packet in the fixed allocation on the shared data channel, wherein the device is configured to:

when a cyclic redundancy code (CRC) on said shared signalling channel is masked using an identifier for the device, decode the data packet according to the transport format parameters of the signalling information and store the transport format parameters of the signalling information when the indication indicates to the device that the transport format parameters of the signalling information is stored for a subsequent said data packet in the fixed allocation, wherein the indication indicates to the device that the transport format parameters of the signalling information received for the data packet is not be stored if the data packet is a retransmission; and

when the CRC on said signalling channel is not masked using the identifier for the device, decode the data packet using the stored transport format parameters, and

means for delivering the decoded data packet to higher layers,

wherein the device is configured to receive, via Radio Resource Control signalling, control information defining a periodicity of transmissions of data packets from a radio access network to the device on the shared data channel.

2. A method comprising:

receiving, via Radio Resource Control signalling, control information defining a periodicity of transmissions of data packets on a shared data channel from a radio access network to the device;

receiving, on a shared signalling channel, signalling information comprising transport format parameters used on the shared data channel and receiving an indication, in the shared signalling channel, whether the transport format parameters of the signalling information is stored by the device;

receiving a data packet on the shared data channel carrying both fixed allocation data packets, for which a fixed allocation is configured, and normal data packets without fixed allocation, wherein the device is configured to store transport format parameters for decoding said data packets;

when a cyclic redundancy code (CRC) on said shared signalling channel is masked using an identifier for the device, decoding the data packet according to the transport format parameters of the signalling information and storing the transport format parameters of the signalling information when the indication indicates to the device that the transport format parameters of the signalling information is stored for a subsequent said data packet in the fixed allocation, wherein the indication indicates to the device that the transport format parameters of the signalling information received for the data packet is not be stored if the data packet is a retransmission; and

when the CRC on said shared signalling channel is not masked using the identifier for the device, decoding said data packet using the stored transport format parameters; and

delivering the decoded data packet to higher layers.
