Abstract

Object driven newsfeeds supporting interest-based social networks aid in the formation of relationships based on similar domains of user interest. A space efficient graphical user interface (GUI) enables access to an object driven newsfeed of contextual and relevant information to aid a consumer/user in making buying decisions in an e-commerce environment.

Claims (28)

1. A method for the generation of an object driven newsfeed, the method comprising:

maintaining a set of personal characteristics for each of a plurality of users of an e-commerce network;

gathering information representing one or more actions of the plurality of users regarding one or more objects;

producing, from the gathered information, a filtered information stream for each of the plurality of users of the e-commerce network, using personal characteristics of a respective one of the plurality of users; and

transmitting, to a user device of each of the plurality of users, a respective newsfeed comprising the respective filtered information stream.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a newsfeed is formatted for display on a graphical user interface as a plurality of columns, wherein each column comprising one or more time-ordered news items.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein a number of columns of a newsfeed can be modified via the graphical user interface.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions comprise one or more purchase transactions.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the one or more purchase transactions occur via the e-commerce network.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions comprise submitting one or more comments.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions comprise participating in a poll.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions comprise expressing interest in the one or more objects.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the set of personal characteristics comprises one or both of a brand preference and an age.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a newsfeed comprises a plurality of object-driven feeds that are displayed in a grid on a graphical user interface.

11. A system for the generation of an object driven newsfeed, the system comprising:

a graphical user interface for display and control of a newsfeed comprising a filtered information stream, wherein:

the graphical user is operably displayed on a plurality of devices corresponding to a plurality of users of an e-commerce network,

the filtered information stream is generated according to one or more personal characteristics of a particular user, and

a personal characteristic of the one or more personal characteristics of the particular user is an action regarding one or more objects.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the newsfeed is formatted for display on the graphical user interface as a plurality of columns, wherein each column comprising one or more time-ordered news items.

13. The system according to claim 12 , wherein a number of columns of the newsfeed can be modified via the graphical user interface.

14. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the action comprises one or more purchase transactions.

15. The system according to claim 14 , wherein the one or more purchase transactions occur via the e-commerce network.

16. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the action comprises submitting one or more comments.

17. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the action comprises participating in a poll.

18. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the action comprises expressing interest in the one or more objects.

19. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the one or more personal characteristics comprises one or both of a brand preference and an age.

20. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the newsfeed comprises a plurality of object-driven feeds that are displayed in a grid on the graphical user interface.
