Abstract

A personal acoustic system and flexible mount for the same are disclosed. The flexible mount is comprised of an elastomeric material. The personal acoustic system further includes a band comprising a first mount and an earpiece comprising a second mount. An acoustic element is housed within the earpiece. The elastomeric mount is positioned intermediate the first mount and the second mount to flexibly connect the band to the earpiece.

Claims (31)

1. An assembly, comprising:

an earpiece comprising an acoustic element;

a band; and

an elastomeric member coupled to the earpiece and the band without additional fasteners, wherein a portion of the earpiece and a portion of the band radially overlap.

2. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric member defines an axial passage dimensioned to receive a portion of the earpiece, and wherein the axial passage is snap-fit around the portion of the earpiece.

3. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric member is comprised of a material selected from a group consisting of thermoplastic elastomer and silicone, wherein the band is comprised of a material selected from a group consisting of metal and plastic, and wherein the earpiece is comprised of a material selected from a group consisting of metal and plastic.

4. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the band is comprised of a first material, wherein the elastomeric member is comprised of a second material that is different than the first material.

5. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the earpiece comprises a frusto-conical shape defining a tapered end.

6. The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric member comprises a plurality of relief features.

7. The assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a rotation inhibitor configured to prevent rotation of the earpiece relative to the elastomeric member.

8. An assembly, comprising:

a band comprising a first end portion and a second end portion;

a first earpiece comprising a first electroacoustic speaker and a first outer mounting surface;

a second earpiece comprising a second electroacoustic speaker and a second outer mounting surface;

a first grommet flexibly connecting the first end portion of the band to the first earpiece, wherein the first grommet comprises a first inner mounting surface, and wherein the first inner mounting surface and the first outer mounting surface radially overlap; and

a second grommet flexibly connecting the second end portion of the band to the second earpiece, wherein the second grommet comprises a second inner mounting surface, and wherein the second inner mounting surface and the second outer mounting surface radially overlap.

9. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first outer mounting surface is positioned in a first axial passage defining the first inner mounting surface.

10. The assembly of claim 9 , wherein the second outer mounting surface is positioned in a second axial passage defining the second inner mounting surface.

11. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the band is comprised of a first material, wherein the first grommet is comprised of a second material that is different than the first material.

12. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first earpiece comprises a frusto-conical shape defining a tapered end, and wherein the tapered end comprises the first outer mounting surface.

13. The assembly of claim 8 , wherein a plurality of relief apertures extend through the first grommet from a first side to a second side.

14. The assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a notched profile configured to prevent rotation of the first outer mounting surface relative to the first grommet.

15. The assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a notched profile configured to prevent rotation of the first end portion relative to the first grommet.

16. An assembly, comprising:

an earpiece comprising a first mount and an acoustic element;

a band comprising a second mount; and

a suspension grommet directly connected to the first mount and the second mount without additional fasteners.

17. The assembly of claim 16 , wherein the earpiece comprises a tapered profile defining a tapered end, and wherein the tapered end comprises the first mount.

18. The assembly of claim 16 , wherein the suspension grommet comprises a plurality of relief features.

19. The assembly of claim 16 , further comprising a notched profile configured to prevent rotation of the earpiece relative to the suspension grommet.

20. The assembly of claim 16 , further comprising a notched profile configured to prevent rotation of the band relative to the suspension grommet.
