Abstract

A method for emergency assistance, the method may include detecting a vehicle situation or receiving information regarding the vehicle situation; monitoring an interaction of a driver with at least one member of a group of vehicle control elements to provide monitored interaction information, wherein the group of vehicle control elements comprises a brake and a gas pedal; determining, based on the vehicle situation and the monitored interaction information, whether the monitored interaction is indicative of an emergency situation; wherein the determining comprises applying a decision rule that is responsive to the vehicle situation; and applying an emergency situation driving procedure when determining that the monitored interaction is indicative of the emergency situation.

Claims (31)

1 . A method for emergency assistance, the method comprises:

detecting a vehicle situation or receiving information regarding the vehicle situation;

monitoring an interaction of a driver with at least one member of a group of vehicle control elements to provide monitored interaction information, wherein the group of vehicle control elements comprises a brake and a gas pedal;

determining, based on the vehicle situation and the monitored interaction information, whether the monitored interaction is indicative of an emergency situation; wherein the determining comprises applying a decision rule that is responsive to the vehicle situation; and

applying an emergency situation driving procedure when determining that the monitored interaction is indicative of the emergency situation.

2 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the applying of the decision rule comprises comparing a delay between a use of the accelerator and a use of the brake to a variable threshold, wherein a duration of the variable threshold is based on the vehicle situation.

3 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the monitoring comprises monitoring an interaction of the driver with the accelerator and the brake.

4 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the monitoring comprises monitoring an interaction of the driver with a member of the group that differs from the accelerator and the brake.

5 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the monitoring comprises monitoring an interaction of the driver with a vehicle winker.

6 . The method according to claim 1 comprising determining a mode of operation of the vehicle out of multiple modes of operation that differ from each other by an amount of control of the driver on the vehicle; and preforming the monitoring based on the mode of operation.

7 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the decision rule is generated based on statistics related to monitored interactions of multiple drivers obtained during multiple monitored periods.

The method according to claim 1 wherein the decision rule is generated based on a classification of monitored interactions of multiple drivers obtained during multiple monitored periods to classes that comprises (i) emergency situation indicative monitored interactions and (ii) non-emergency situation indicative monitored interactions.

9 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the decision rule is generated based on a machine learning process.

10 . The method according to claim 1 comprising applying a machine learning process to define the decision rule.

The method according to claim 1 further comprising monitoring at least one physiological parameter of the driver to provide monitored physiological results; and wherein the determining of whether the monitored interaction is indicative of the emergency situation is also responsive to the monitored physiological results.

12 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the vehicle situation is a presence of a red traffic light within a close proximity of the vehicle and at a direction of progress of the vehicle.

13 . The method according to claim 1 comprising sensing an environment of a vehicle by at least one vehicle sensor to provide sensed information; and detecting, based on the sensed information, the vehicle situation.

14 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the applying of the emergency situation driving procedure comprising stopping the vehicle.

15 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the applying of the emergency situation driving procedure comprising sending alerts to proximate vehicles via vehicle to vehicle communication links.

16 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the applying of the emergency situation driving procedure comprising autonomously driving the vehicle.

17 . The method according to claim 1 wherein the monitoring of the interaction of the driver with the at least one member of a group of vehicle control elements comprises monitoring the interaction of the driver with a steering wheel of the vehicle when the steering wheel is not controlled by the vehicle.

18 . A system for emergency assistance, the system comprises a processing unit that is configured to:

detect a vehicle situation or receiving information regarding the vehicle situation;

monitor an interaction of a driver with at least one member of a group of vehicle control elements to provide monitored interaction information, wherein the group of vehicle control elements comprises a brake and a gas pedal;

determine, based on the vehicle situation and the monitored interaction information, whether the monitored interaction is indicative of an emergency situation; wherein the determining comprises applying a decision rule that is responsive to the vehicle situation; and

assist in applying an emergency situation driving procedure when determining that the monitored interaction is indicative of the emergency situation

19 . A non-transitory computer readable medium that stores instructions for:

detecting a vehicle situation or receiving information regarding the vehicle situation;

monitoring an interaction of a driver with at least one member of a group of vehicle control elements to provide monitored interaction information, wherein the group of vehicle control elements comprises a brake and a gas pedal;

determining, based on the vehicle situation and the monitored interaction information, whether the monitored interaction is indicative of an emergency situation; wherein the determining comprises applying a decision rule that is responsive to the vehicle situation; and

applying an emergency situation driving procedure when determining that the monitored interaction is indicative of the emergency situation.
