Abstract

The technology described herein is directed to wireless power chargers with integrated power receiving facilities. Indeed, embodiments of the present disclosure describe systems, methods, and apparatuses for implementing wireless power chargers with integrated power receiving facilities. In some implementations, a portable wireless power charging apparatus is disclosed. The portable wireless power charging apparatus includes one or more antennas configured to wirelessly receive directed wireless power from a wireless power transmission system via a first radiative wireless power transfer technology in a multipath wireless power delivery environment. The portable wireless power charging apparatus further includes a wireless power receiver configured to convert the wireless power received via the first radiative wireless power transfer technology to direct current (DC) power, and a wireless power transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit the DC power to a portable electronic device via a nonradiative wireless power transfer technology.

9. The portable apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a near-field wireless power receiver configured to receive wireless power via a near-field non-radiative source and convert the received wireless power to DC power.

10. The portable apparatus of claim 9 , further comprising:

a switch configured to alternately couple the wireless power receiver, and the near-field wireless power receiver, to the wireless power transmitter; and

control circuitry configured to:

detect that the wireless power receiver or the near-field wireless power receiver is receiving wireless power; and

control the switch based on a current availability of the wireless power receiver and the near-field wireless power receiver for receiving wireless power.

11. A method of operating a portable apparatus for charging a portable electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving, using one or more antennas, directed power from a wireless power transmission system positioned distally from the portable apparatus, and via a radiative wireless power transfer technology, in a multipath wireless power delivery environment;

converting, using a wireless power receiver operably coupled to the one or more antennas, the wireless power received via the radiative wireless power transfer technology to direct current (DC) power;

transmitting, using a wireless power transmitter operably coupled to the wireless power receiver, the DC power to a portable electronic device via a non-radiative nonradiative wireless power transfer technology; and

charging, using the wireless power transmitter, the portable electronic device in the absence of physically coupling the portable electronic device to the portable apparatus.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising storing the wireless power received via the radiative wireless power transfer technology in an energy storage device prior to the transmitting step.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

monitoring a power level of the energy storage device; and

based on the power level, controlling the transmitting of the DC power to the portable electronic device to maintain a minimum charging current at the portable electronic device.

14. A portable apparatus for charging a portable electronic device, the portable apparatus comprising:

a housing; and
