Clamp assemblies and methods
View Patent ↗An improved hose clamp having an annular band having an inner face, tensioning means, and an annular spring liner; the spring liner having a circumferential shoulder near an edge of the liner; and a central, cylindrical, flat contact portion of smaller circumference than the shoulder, and of smaller width than the inner face of the band. The shoulder is adapted to abut the inner face and the contact portion is adapted to contact a hose or other article to be clamped.
1. A clamp assembly comprising:
a band having an inner face,
a tensioner adapted to apply a tensioning force to the band, and
an annular spring liner comprising:
a pair of shoulders adapted to abut the inner face of the band, and
a central contact portion of smaller inner circumference than the pair of shoulders,
wherein, when the annular spring liner is viewed in cross-section in the absence of the tensioning force, (i) the shoulders are linear and (ii) the central contact portion includes a linear section that runs parallel to the shoulders; and
wherein the annular spring liner is adapted to deflect elastically to decrease a gap between the central contact portion of the annular spring liner and the inner face of the band when the tensioning force is applied to the band.
2. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the central contact portion of the annular spring liner is adapted to deflect elastically when the tensioning force is applied to the band.
3. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the inner face of the band faces the central contact portion of the annular spring liner.
4. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the central contact portion of the annular spring liner is positioned within the inner face of the band.
5. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the annular spring liner is formed out of sheet metal.
6. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the shoulders of the annular spring liner have the same thickness as the central contact portion of the annular spring liner.
7. The clamp assembly of claim 1 , wherein the annular spring liner is has a uniform thickness.
8. A clamp assembly comprising:
a band having an inner face,
a tensioner adapted to apply a tensioning force to the band, and
an annular spring liner adapted to deflect elastically when the tensioning force is applied to the band, the annular spring liner comprising:
a pair of shoulders adapted to abut the inner face of the band,
a central contact portion of smaller inner circumference than the pair of shoulders, and
a pair of legs connecting the shoulders to the central contact portion,
wherein, when the annular spring liner is viewed in cross-section in the absence of the tensioning force, (i) the shoulders are linear and (ii) the central contact portion includes a linear section that runs parallel to the shoulders.
9. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the legs do not run parallel to the shoulders or the central contact portion of the annular spring liner.
10. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the central contact portion of the annular spring liner is spaced apart from the inner face of the band in the absence of the tensioning force.
11. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the legs are adapted to deflect elastically when the tensioning force is applied to the band.
12. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the annular spring liner is formed out of sheet metal.
13. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the shoulders of the annular spring liner have the same thickness as the central contact portion of the annular spring liner.
14. The clamp assembly of claim 8 , wherein the annular spring liner is has a uniform thickness.
15. A clamp assembly comprising:
a band having an inner face,
a tensioner adapted to apply a tensioning force to the band, and
an annular spring liner adapted to deflect elastically when the tensioning force is applied to the band, the annular spring liner comprising:
a pair of shoulders adapted to abut the inner face of the band,
a central contact portion of smaller inner circumference than the pair of shoulders, and
a pair of radially outwardly flared flanges,
wherein, when the annular spring liner is viewed in cross-section in the absence of the tensioning force, (i) the shoulders are linear and (ii) the central contact portion includes a linear section that runs parallel to the shoulders.
16. The clamp assembly of claim 15 , wherein each of the radially outwardly flared flanges is connected to one of the shoulders.
17. The clamp assembly of claim 15 , wherein the pair of radially outwardly flared flanges extends beyond a width of the band.
18. The clamp assembly of claim 15 , wherein the annular spring liner is formed out of sheet metal.
19. The clamp assembly of claim 15 , wherein the shoulders of the annular spring liner have the same thickness as the central contact portion of the annular spring liner.
20. The clamp assembly of claim 15 , wherein the annular spring liner is has a uniform thickness.
