Abstract

Provided herein are devices and methods suitable for sequencing, amplifying, analyzing, and performing sample preparation procedures for nucleic acids and other biomolecules.

Claims (24)

1 . A device, comprising:

a sensor array comprising a sensor having a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein said sensor is configured to measure a change in an electrical property in solution between said first electrode and said second electrode, said change in said electrical property being indicative of a presence or an absence of an analyte between said first electrode and said second electrode,

wherein at least one of said first electrode and said second electrode is shared with at least one other sensor of said sensor array.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said electrical property is selected from the group consisting of impedance, conductance, charge, and pH.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 262,144 sensors at a pitch of 100 micrometers or less.

4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein said sensors in said sensor array are positioned at a pitch of 50 micrometers or less.

5 . The device of claim 3 , wherein said sensors in said sensor array are positioned at a pitch of pitch of from 1 micrometer to 100 micrometers.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 1,048,576 sensors at a pitch of 100 micrometers or less.

7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein said sensors of said sensor array are positioned at a pitch of 50 micrometers or less.

8 . The device of claim 6 , wherein said sensors of said sensor array are positioned at a pitch of from 1 micrometer to 100 micrometers.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 100,000,000 sensors at a pitch of 100 micrometers or less.

10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 100,000,000 sensors at a pitch of 50 micrometers or less.

11 . The device of claim 9 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 100,000,000 sensors at a pitch of from 1 micrometer to 100 micrometers.

12 . The device of claim 1 , wherein said sensor array comprises a capture element configured to position a particle having said analyte coupled thereto at a position between said first electrode and said second electrode.

13 . A method, comprising:

(a) activating a device comprising a sensor array comprising a sensor having a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein at least one of said first electrode and said second electrode is shared with at least one other sensor of said sensor array; and

(b) using said sensor to measure a change in an electrical property in solution between said first electrode and said second electrode, said change in said electrical property being indicative of a presence or an absence of an analyte between said first electrode and said second electrode.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein, in (b), said analyte is disposed between said first electrode and said second electrode.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said analyte is coupled to a particle, and wherein in (b) said particle is disposed between said first electrode and said second electrode.

16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said electrical property is selected from the group consisting of impedance, conductance, charge, and pH.

17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 262,144 sensors at a pitch of 100 micrometers or less.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said sensor array comprises at least 1,048,576 sensors at a pitch of 100 micrometers or less.

19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said analyte is a nucleic acid molecule.

20 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said analyte is a protein or a polypeptide.
