Abstract

A seating module having a recessed grip for a vehicle, in particular an aircraft, and a seating arrangement that includes a seating module that has a recessed grip. The seating module includes a shell structure that defines the recessed grip in an upper area of the shell structure.

Claims (24)

1. A seating module comprising:

a shell structure defining a first seating area in which a seat is provided, the shell structure being located at least behind the seat with respect to a direction of travel of a vehicle, the shell structure comprising a grip structure, the grip structure defining a grip for a passenger located behind the seating module with respect to a direction of travel of the vehicle, wherein the grip structure is arranged on a side surface of the shell structure, and wherein a second seating module comprises another shell structure defining a second seating area in which another seat is provided, the first seating area and the second seating area having adjacent seats, wherein the grip structure is located between the adjacent seats of the first seating area and the second seating area extending from one of the adjacent seats and spaced apart from the other one of the adjacent seats.

2. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein a top of the grip structure projects laterally outward from the side surface and the grip structure angles inward toward the side surface of the shell structure from the top surface of the grip structure to a bottom surface of the grip structure.

3. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the grip structure is formed as at least one of a bow, a C-shaped protrusion or an upstanding bow.

4. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the grip structure is located only on the side surface.

5. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the grip structure is located only on an upper portion of the side surface.

6. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the shell structure is mounted to a rear surface of the seat.

7. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the grip structure is aligned at a height of a headrest of the seat.

8. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein, the side surface of the shell structure comprises the grip structure integrated therewith.

9. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the shell structure forms a support structure of the seat.

10. The seating module in accordance with claim 9 , wherein the shell structure further comprises a recess along a top portion of the shell structure having an opening facing toward a ceiling of the vehicle.

11. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein an additional seating module comprises an additional shell structure defining a third seating area having an additional seat adjacent to one of the seats of the first seating area or the second seating area, wherein another grip structure is located between the additional seat of the third seating area and the one of the seats of the first seating area or the second seating area.

12. The seating module in accordance with claim 11 , wherein the grip structure and the other grip structure are positioned at a same location along the shell structure and the additional shell structure and with respect to a lateral direction, the lateral direction being perpendicular to the direction of travel of the vehicle.

13. The seating module in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is an aircraft.

14. A seating arrangement for a vehicle, the seating arrangement comprising:

a first seating module comprising: a first shell structure defining a first seating area in which a first seat is provided, the first shell structure being located behind the first seat with respect to a direction of travel of a vehicle, the first shell structure comprising a first grip structure, the first grip structure defining a grip for a passenger located behind the first seating module with respect to a direction of travel of the vehicle, the first grip structure being arranged on a side surface of the first shell structure at a distance from a top surface of the first shell structure and projects outwards from the side surface; and

a second seating module comprising:

a second shell structure defining a second seating area in which a second seat is provided, the second seat being adjacent to the first seat of the first seating module, the second shell structure being located behind the second seat with respect to the direction of travel of the vehicle, the second shell structure comprising a second grip structure, the second grip structure being arranged on a side surface of the second shell structure between the first seating area and the second seating area extending from the second shell structure and spaced apart from the first shell structure.

15. The seating arrangement in accordance with claim 14 , wherein a top of the first grip structure projects laterally outward from the side surface and the first grip structure angles inward toward the side surface of the first shell structure from the top surface of the first grip structure to a bottom surface of the first grip structure.

16. The seating arrangement in accordance with claim 14 , wherein the first grip structure is formed as at least one of a bow, a C-shaped protrusion or an upstanding bow.

17. The seating arrangement in accordance with claim 14 , wherein the first grip structure is aligned at a height of a headrest of the first seat.

18. The seating arrangement in accordance with claim 14 , wherein the side surface of the first shell structure comprises the first grip structure integrated therewith.

19. A seating module comprising:

a shell structure defining a first seating area in which a seat is provided, the shell structure being located at least behind the seat with respect to a direction of travel of a vehicle, the shell structure comprising a grip structure, the grip structure defining a grip for a passenger located behind the seating module with respect to a direction of travel of the vehicle, wherein the grip structure is arranged on a side surface of the shell structure, wherein a top of the grip structure projects laterally outward from the side surface and a side of the grip structure angles downward and inward toward the side surface of the shell structure from the top surface of the grip structure to a bottom surface of the grip structure, and wherein a second seating module comprises another shell structure defining a second seating area in which another seat is provided, the first seating area and the second seating area having adjacent seats, wherein the grip structure is located between the adjacent seats of the first seating area and the second seating area extending from one of the adjacent seats and spaced apart from the other one of the adjacent seats.
