Abstract

A stent for use in a medical procedure having opposing sets of curved apices, where the curved section of one set of apices has a radius of curvature that is greater than the curved section of the other set of apices. One or more such stents may be attached to a graft material for use in endovascular treatment of, for example, aneurysm, thoracic dissection, or other body vessel condition.

Claims (35)

1. A stent comprising:

a plurality of proximal and distal apices connected by a plurality of generally straight portions, each of the plurality of proximal apices and distal apices having a radius of curvature wherein the radius of the curvature of the proximal apices is greater than the radius of curvature of the distal apices,

wherein the plurality of the proximal apices includes first and second opposed shoulder fillets wherein the first and second opposed shoulder fillets each have a radius of curvature of from about 0.5 mm to about 5.0 mm, and

wherein the plurality of distal apices have a radius of curvature of from about 0.5 mm to about 1.5 mm.

2. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the radius of curvature of at least one of the plurality of proximal apices is from about 4 mm to about 9 mm.

3. The stent of claim 1 , wherein a ratio of the radius of curvature of the proximal apices to the radius of curvature of the distal apices is about 1:2.6 to about 1:18.

4. The stent of claim 1 , wherein a first distance between an apical extremity of the first opposed shoulder fillet and an apical extremity of a second opposed shoulder fillet is less than a second distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a tip a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex.

5. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the stent has a first distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a tip of a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex and a second distance along a longitudinal axis of the stent between a tip of a distal apex and an apical extremity of a proximal apex, wherein the first distance is equal to or greater than the second distance.

6. The stent of claim 5 , wherein a ratio between the first distance and the second distance is from about 1:1 to about 3:1.

7. The stent of claim 4 , wherein a ratio between the first distance and the second distance is from about 1:3 to about 7:8.

8. The stent of claim 1 further including a tube of graft material having a proximal most end, a distal most end, and a lumen therebetween, wherein the stent does not extend beyond the proximal most end.

9. The stent of claim 8 , wherein the stent is disposed entirely within the lumen of the tube of graft material.

10. A stent comprising:

a plurality of proximal and distal apices connected by a plurality of generally straight portions, each of the plurality of proximal apices and distal apices having a radius of curvature wherein the radius of curvature of the proximal apices is greater than the radius of curvature of the distal apices,

wherein a plurality of the plurality of the proximal apices includes first and second opposed shoulder fillets wherein the first and second opposed shoulder fillets each have a radius of curvature of from about 0.5 mm to about 5.0 mm,

wherein the plurality of distal apices have a radius of curvature of from about 0.5 mm to about 1.5 mm,

wherein the plurality of proximal apices have a radius of curvature of from about 4 mm to about 9 mm.

11. The stent of claim 10 , wherein a first distance between an apical extremity of the first opposed shoulder fillet and a second opposed shoulder fillet is less than a second distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex.

12. The stent of claim 11 , wherein a ratio of the first distance to the second distance is from about 1:3 to about 7:8.

13. The stent of claim 10 , wherein the stent has a first distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a tip of a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex and a second distance along a longitudinal axis of the stent between a tip of a distal apex and an apical extremity of a proximal apex, wherein the first distance is equal to or greater than the second distance.

14. The stent of claim 13 , wherein a ratio between the first distance and the second distance is from about 1:1 to about 3:1.

15. A stent comprising:

a plurality of proximal and distal apices connected by a plurality of generally straight portions, each of the plurality of proximal apices and distal apices having a radius of curvature wherein the radius of the curvature of the proximal apices is greater than the radius of curvature of the distal apices,

wherein a plurality of the plurality of the proximal apices includes first and second opposed shoulder fillets wherein the first and second opposed shoulder fillets each have a radius of curvature of from about 0.5 mm to about 5.0 mm,

wherein a first distance between an apical extremity of the first opposed shoulder fillet and a second opposed shoulder fillet is less than a second distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex.

16. The stent of claim 15 , wherein a ratio of the first distance to the second distance is from about 1:3 to about 7:8.

17. The stent of claim 15 , wherein the stent has a first distance between a tip of a first distal apex and a tip of a second distal apex next adjacent the first distal apex and a second distance along a longitudinal axis of the stent between a tip of a distal apex and an apical extremity of a proximal apex, wherein the first distance is equal to or greater than the second distance.

18. The stent of claim 17 , wherein a ratio between the first distance and the second distance is from about 1:1 to about 3:1.

19. The stent of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of proximal apices have a radius of curvature of from about 4 mm to about 9 mm.
