Abstract

A radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna is disclosed. The RFID antenna may include: a substrate; a radiator disposed on the substrate, the radiator comprising a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor that perpendicularly intersect a straight edge of the radiator, the first electrical conductor and the second electrical conductor being symmetrical to each other with respect to a central point of the radiator; a loop disposed on the substrate; and a stub disposed on the substrate between the loop and the central point of the radiator.

Claims (54)

1. A radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna comprising:

a substrate;

a radiator disposed on the substrate, the radiator comprising:

a plurality of electrical conductors comprising:

a first electrical conductor;

a second electrical conductor;

a third electrical conductor; and

a fourth electrical conductor, wherein each of the second, third and fourth electrical conductors perpendicularly intersect the first electrical conductor,

wherein the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor comprise stubs disposed at opposite ends of the first electrical conductor,

wherein the fourth electrical conductor is disposed between the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor, the fourth electrical conductor comprising a loop and a tapered feeding stub disposed between the loop and the first electrical conductor, wherein the loop and the tapered feeding stub have varying widths,

wherein a width of the tapered feeding stub varies between the loop and the first electrical conductor to adjust an impedance matching of the RFID antenna, and

wherein a resonance and a resistance of the RFID antenna are controlled based on a function of widths and heights of the tapered feeding stub, the radiator, and the loop.

2. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , where the loop is formed in a shape of a polygon.

3. The RFID antenna according to claim 2 , wherein the polygon is a rectangle.

4. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein a total width of the tapered feeding stub gradually decreases in a direction from the first electrical conductor towards the loop.

5. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein a total width of the tapered feeding stub remains constant in a direction from the first electrical conductor towards the loop.

6. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor are symmetrical to each other with respect to a central point first electrical conductor.

7. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein the RFID antenna is configured to operate at ultra-high frequencies from 860 MHz to 960 MHz.

8. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein when a central operating frequency is 865 MHz, a length of the loop is 0.073λ, and a height of the loop is 0.02λ.

9. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein when a central operating frequency is 915 MHz, a length of the loop is 0.075λ, and a height of the loop is 0.018λ.

10. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein the first, second, third and fourth electrical conductors form an integral electrical conductor.

The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein a side of the second electrical conductor that is opposite to a side of the first electrical conductor includes alternating protrusions and recesses, and a side of the third electrical conductor that is opposite to a side of the first electrical conductor includes alternating protrusions and recesses.

12. The RFID antenna according to claim 1 , wherein the RFID antenna is a dual band antenna.

13. The RFID antenna according to claim 12 , wherein the resonance of the RFID antenna is determined, at least in part, by a height of the second electrical conductor, a height of the third electrical conductor, a total width of the tapered feeding stub, and a total width of the loop.

14. A radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna comprising:

a substrate;

a radiator disposed on the substrate, the radiator comprising:

a plurality of electrical conductors comprising:

a first electrical conductor;

a second electrical conductor;

a third electrical conductor; and

a fourth electrical conductor, wherein the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor are disposed perpendicular at opposite ends of the first electrical conductor, wherein the fourth electrical conductor is disposed between the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor,

a loop disposed on the substrate, wherein the loop has varying widths; and

a tapered feeding stub disposed on the substrate between the loop and the first electrical conductor, wherein the tapered feeding stub has varying widths,

wherein a width of the tapered feeding stub varies between the loop and the first electrical conductor to adjust an impedance matching of the RFID antenna, and

wherein a resonance and a resistance of the RFID antenna are controlled based on a function of widths and heights of the tapered feeding stub, the radiator, and the loop.

15. The RFID antenna according to claim 14 , where the loop is formed in a shape of a polygon.

16. The RFID antenna according to claim 15 , wherein the polygon is a rectangle.

17. The RFID antenna according to claim 14 , wherein a total width of the tapered feeding stub gradually decreases in a direction from a straight edge of the radiator towards the loop.

18. The RFID antenna according to claim 14 , wherein a total width of the tapered feeding stub remains constant in a direction from a straight edge of the radiator towards the loop.

19. The RFID antenna according to claim 14 , wherein the RFID antenna is a dual band antenna.

20. A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag comprising:

a substrate;

an integrated circuit disposed on the substrate, the integrated circuit having an input terminal, the input terminal having an input impedance; and

an RFID antenna disposed on the substrate, the RFID antenna having a feed terminal coupled to the input terminal of the integrated circuit, wherein the feed terminal has a terminal impedance, the RFID antenna comprising:

a radiator disposed on the substrate, the radiator comprising:

a first electrical conductor;

a second electrical conductor;

a third electrical conductor; and

a fourth electrical conductor, wherein the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor are disposed perpendicular at opposite ends of the first electrical conductor, wherein the fourth electrical conductor is disposed between the second electrical conductor and the third electrical conductor,

a loop disposed on the substrate, wherein the loop has varying widths; and

a tapered feeding stub disposed on the substrate between the loop and the first electrical conductor, wherein the tapered feeding stub is coupled to the feed terminal, wherein the tapered feeding stub has varying widths;

wherein a width of the tapered feeding stub varies between the loop and the first electrical conductor to adjust an impedance matching of the RFID antenna, and

wherein a resonance and a resistance of the RFID antenna are controlled based on a function of widths and heights of the tapered feeding stub, the radiator, and the loop.
