Abstract

A frame arrangement for a vehicle may include a first side member and a second side member that each have an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portions are spaced laterally apart by a first distance, and the lower portions are spaced laterally apart by a second distance less than the first distance. The frame arrangement may further include a first battery positioned between the lower portions of the side members, and a second battery positioned between the upper portions of the side members.

Claims (25)

1. A frame arrangement for a vehicle, the frame arrangement comprising:

a first side member and a second side member that each have an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the upper portions are spaced laterally apart by a first distance, and the lower portions are spaced laterally apart by a second distance less than the first distance;

a first battery positioned between the lower portions of the side members; and

a second battery positioned between the upper portions of the side members.

2. The frame arrangement of claim 1 further comprising a third battery positioned between the upper portions of the first and second side members.

3. The frame arrangement of claim 2 , wherein the first battery, the second battery, and the third battery are in a triangular configuration.

4. The frame arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the side members are bent or stamped.

5. The frame arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the side members comprise a composite material.

6. The frame arrangement of claim 5 , wherein the composite material comprises carbon fibers.

7. The frame arrangement of claim 1 further comprising a first rear member and second rear member attached to the first and second side members, respectively, each rear member including a main body having a top surface that is positioned beneath a top surface of each side member so that height of a rear portion of the frame arrangement is lower than height of a front portion of the frame arrangement.

8. The frame arrangement of claim 1 further comprising a first storage tank positioned on an outboard side of the first side member and a second storage tank positioned on an outboard side of the second side member.

9. A frame arrangement for a vehicle, the frame arrangement comprising:

a first side member and a second side member that each have an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the upper portions are spaced laterally apart by a first distance, and the lower portions are spaced laterally apart by a second distance less than the first distance;

a storage tank positioned between the lower portions of the side members;

a storage tank positioned on an outboard side of the first side member; and

a storage tank positioned on an outboard side of the second side member, wherein each of the storage tanks has a cylindrical configuration.

10. The frame arrangement of claim 9 , further comprising a lower support structure attached to the side members and extending below the side members.

11. The frame arrangement of claim 10 , further comprising a battery supported by the lower support structure.

12. The frame arrangement of claim 10 , further comprising a battery positioned between the upper portions of the side members.

13. The frame arrangement of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the storage tanks comprises a composite material including carbon fibers.

14. The frame arrangement of claim 9 further comprising a first rear member and a second rear members attached to the first and second side members, respectively, each rear member including a main body having a top surface that is positioned beneath a top surface of each side member so that height of a rear portion of the frame arrangement is lower than height of a front portion of the frame arrangement.

15. The frame arrangement of claim 9 , wherein each side member has a plurality of openings to reduce weight of the side member.

16. The frame arrangement of claim 9 , wherein the side members are bent or stamped.

17. The frame arrangement of claim 9 , wherein the side members comprise a composite material.

18. The frame arrangement of claim 17 , wherein the composite material comprises carbon fibers.
