Abstract

Methods for determining desired doping conditions for a semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (s-SWCNT) are provided. One exemplary method includes doping each of a plurality of s-SWCNT networks under a respective set of doping conditions; determining a thermoelectric (TE) power factor as a function of a fractional bleach of an absorption spectrum for the plurality of s-SWCNT networks doped under the respective sets of doping conditions; and using the function to identify one of the TE power factors within a range of the fractional bleach of the absorption spectrum. The identified TE power factor corresponds to the desired doping conditions.

Claims (17)

1. A composition comprising:

a network comprising a semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube (s-SWCNT), and

a thermoelectric (TE) power factor between 180 μW m −1 K −2 and 350 μW m −1 K −2 .

2. The composition according to claim 1 , further comprising an electronic band gap between approximately 0.8 eV and approximately 1.4 eV.

3. The composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a dopant of at least one of a Lewis acid, a Brønsted acid, a Lewis base, or a Brønsted base.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the s-SWCNT has an average diameter between 0.8 nm and 1.75 nm.

5. The composition of claim 4 , wherein the average diameter is between 1.0 nm and 1.1 nm.

6. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the dopant comprises at least one of 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-tetracyanoquinodimethane, triethyloxonium hexachloroantimonate, hydrazine, or ethylenediamine, and the composition is p-type.

7. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the dopant comprises at least one of nitric acid, sulphuric acid, or trifluoroacetic acid, and the composition is n-type.

8. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the s-SWCNT comprises a single-chirality s-SWCNT.

9. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising a fluorene-based polymer.

10. The composition of claim 9 , wherein the fluorene-based polymer comprises at least one of poly[(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-alt-co-(6,6′-{2,2′-bipyridine})], poly[(9,9-dihexylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-co-(9,10-anthracene)], or poly(9,9-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl).

11. The composition of claim 9 , comprising a ratio of the s-SWCNT to the fluorene-based polymer of about 1:1.

12. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising a carrier density of about 1×10 20 holes/cm 3 .

13. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the network comprises a bundle of the s-SWCNT having a size between 14 nm and 45 nm.

14. The composition of claim 1 , comprising an electrical conductivity between 10 3 S/m and 10 5 S/m.

15. The composition of claim 14 , comprising a thermopower between 100 μV/K and 200 μV/K.
