Abstract

An insulating device can include an aperture having a waterproof closure which allows access to the chamber within the insulating device. The closure can help prevent any fluid leakage into and out of the insulating device if the insulating device is overturned or in any configuration other than upright. The closure also prevents any fluid from permeating into the chamber if the insulating device is exposed to precipitation, other fluid, or submersed under water. This construction results in an insulating chamber impervious to water and other liquids when the closure is sealed.

Claims (153)

1. An insulating container comprising:

an outer shell defining a frontside and a backside;

an inner liner forming a storage compartment;

an insulating layer located between the outer shell and the inner liner;

an opening extending through the outer shell and the inner liner;

a first carry strap connected to the frontside;

a second carry strap connected to the backside;

at least two attachment points,

wherein a first D-ring is attached to a first attachment point,

wherein a second D-ring is attached to a second attachment point,

wherein the first and second attachment points are formed from loops in a material integral with either or both the first carry strap or the second carry strap;

a plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the first carry strap and the second carry strap are connected to the plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the reinforcement patches are substantially rectilinear, and

wherein the reinforcement patches are attached to the outer shell;

a bottom,

wherein the bottom includes a logo,

wherein the logo is molded or embossed directly into the bottom, and

wherein the bottom includes a reinforcement strip; and

a closure configured to seal the opening.

2. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the first carry strap and the second carry strap are sewn to the reinforcement patches, and wherein the reinforcement patches are secured to the outer shell.

3. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the closure substantially resists liquid from exiting the opening when the insulating container is in any orientation.

4. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the closure is a zipper assembly.

5. The insulating container of claim 4 , wherein the zipper assembly comprises a plurality of zipper teeth, and wherein the zipper teeth are formed of plastic or metal.

6. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the inner liner is connected to the outer shell adjacent the closure.

7. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the inner liner is connected to the outer shell only adjacent to the closure.

8. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the closure has a first flange and a second flange, and the outer shell is secured to a top surface of the first flange and a top surface of the second flange and the inner liner is secured to a bottom surface of the first flange and a bottom surface of the second flange.

9. The insulating container of claim 1 wherein the inner liner is not fixed directly to the insulating layer.

10. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the insulating layer comprises a closed cell foam.

11. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an NBR and a PVC blend.

12. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an EVA foam layer.

13. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell is waterproof and the material forming the loops is nylon webbing.

14. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the bottom further includes a support ridge.

15. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell is a material selected from the group consisting of PVC, TPU, TPU coated nylon, double laminated TPU nylon fabric, and coated fabrics.

16. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell is non-rigid.

17. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the first and second D-rings are plastic.

18. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell is a weldable material.

19. The insulating container of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell and the inner liner are connected to the closure by a polymer weld.

20. The insulating container of claim 1 wherein the first carry strap or the second carry strap is configured to support at least 100 lbs.

21. The insulating container of claim 1 further comprising a shoulder strap, wherein the shoulder strap includes at least one plastic or metal clip.

22. The insulating container of claim 21 , wherein the at least one plastic or metal clip is configured to engage a third D-ring and a fourth D-ring.

23. A method of making an insulating container comprising:

forming an outer shell defining a frontside and a backside;

forming an inner liner, wherein the inner liner forms a storage compartment;

forming an insulating layer located between the outer shell and the inner liner;

forming an opening extending through the outer shell and the inner liner, wherein the opening is configured to provide access to the storage compartment;

connecting a first carry strap to the frontside, and a second carry strap to the backside;

forming at least two attachment points,

wherein a first D-ring is attached to a first attachment point,

wherein a second D-ring is attached to a second attachment point,

wherein the first and second attachment points are formed from loops in a material integral with either the first carry strap or the second carry strap and

wherein the material is nylon webbing;

forming a plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the carry straps are connected to the plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the reinforcement patches are substantially rectangular, and

wherein the reinforcement patches are attached to the outer shell;

forming a bottom,

wherein the bottom includes a logo,

wherein the logo is molded or embossed directly into the bottom, and

wherein the bottom includes a reinforcement strip; and

forming a closure configured to seal the opening,

wherein the closure substantially resists liquid from exiting the opening when the insulating container is in any orientation, and

wherein the closure is a zipper.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the insulating layer comprises a closed cell foam, an NBR and a PVC blend, or an EVA foam layer.

25. The method of claim 23 , wherein the outer shell is waterproof.

26. The method of claim 23 , wherein the outer shell is a material selected from the group consisting of PVC, TPU, TPU coated nylon, double laminated TPU nylon fabric, and coated fabrics.

27. The method of claim 23 , wherein the outer shell and the inner liner are connected to the closure by a polymer weld.

28. The method of claim 23 , wherein the first and the second D-rings are plastic.

29. An insulating container comprising:

an outer shell defining a frontside and a backside;

an inner liner forming a storage compartment;

an insulating layer located between the outer shell and the inner liner;

an opening extending through the outer shell and the inner liner;

a plurality of carrying straps comprising:

at least one attachment point,

wherein at least one D-ring is attached to the at least one attachment point,

wherein the attachment point is formed from a loop in a material, and

wherein the material is nylon webbing;

at least one reinforcement patch,

wherein the carrying strap is connected to the at least one reinforcement patch,

wherein the at least one reinforcement patch is substantially rectangular, and

wherein the at least one reinforcement patch is attached to the outer shell;

a bottom,

wherein the bottom includes a logo,

wherein the logo is molded or embossed directly into the bottom,

wherein the bottom includes a reinforcement strip, and

wherein the bottom includes a support ridge; and

a closure configured to seal the opening,

wherein the closure substantially resists liquid from exiting the opening when the insulating container is in any orientation, and

wherein the closure is a zipper.

30. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the zipper comprises a plurality of zipper teeth, and wherein the zipper teeth are formed of plastic or metal.

31. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the inner liner is connected to the outer shell adjacent the closure.

32. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the inner liner is connected to the outer shell only adjacent to the closure.

33. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the closure has a first flange and a second flange, and the outer shell is secured to a top surface of the first flange and a top surface of the second flange and the inner liner is secured to a bottom surface of the first flange and a bottom surface of the second flange.

34. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the inner liner is not fixed directly to the insulating layer.

35. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the insulating layer comprises a closed cell foam.

36. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an NBR and a PVC blend.

37. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an EVA foam layer.

38. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the outer shell is waterproof and the material forming the loops is nylon webbing.

39. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the bottom further includes a support ridge.

40. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the outer shell is a material selected from the group consisting of PVC, TPU, TPU coated nylon, double laminated TPU nylon fabric, and coated fabrics.

41. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the outer shell is non-rigid.

42. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the at least one D-ring is plastic.

43. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the outer shell is a weldable material.

44. The insulating container of claim 29 , wherein the outer shell and the inner liner are connected to the closure by a polymer weld.

45. An insulating container comprising:

an outer shell defining a frontside and a backside;

an inner liner forming a storage compartment;

an insulating layer located between the outer shell and the inner liner;

an opening extending through the outer shell and the inner liner;

a first carry strap connected to the frontside, second carrying strap connected to the backside;

a plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the first carry strap and the second carry strap are connected to the plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the reinforcement patches are attached to the outer shell;

a closure configured to seal the opening wherein the closure is substantially resists liquid from exiting the opening when the insulating container is in any orientation; wherein the closure defines a first flange and a second flange, and the outer shell is secured to a top surface of the first flange and a top surface of the second flange and the inner liner is secured to a bottom surface of the first flange and a bottom surface of the second flange to form a joint between the outer shell to the inner liner and to maintain the insulating layer between the outer shell and the inner liner.

46. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the first carry strap and the second carry strap are sewn to the reinforcement patches, and wherein the reinforcement patches are secured to the outer shell.

47. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the inner liner is connected to the outer shell only adjacent to the closure.

48. The insulating container of claim 45 wherein the inner liner is not fixed directly to the insulating layer.

49. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the insulating layer comprises a closed cell foam formed from one or more of an NBR and a PVC blend.

50. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an EVA foam layer.

51. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the outer shell is water resistant and the inner liner is waterproof.

52. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the insulating container defines a bottom and the bottom includes a support ridge.

53. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the outer shell is a material selected from the group consisting of PVC, TPU, TPU coated nylon, double laminated TPU nylon fabric, and coated fabrics.

54. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the outer shell and the inner liner are connected to the closure by a polymer weld.

55. The insulating container of claim 45 , wherein the first carry strap or the second carry strap is configured to support at least 100 lbs.

56. An insulating container comprising:

an outer shell defining at least a frontside and a backside;

an inner liner forming a storage compartment;

an insulating layer located between the outer shell and the inner liner;

an opening extending through the outer shell and the inner liner;

a first carry strap connected to the frontside;

a second carry strap connected to the backside;

a plurality of carry handles;

at least two attachment points,

wherein a first D-ring is attached to a first attachment point,

wherein a second D-ring is attached to a second attachment point,

wherein the first and second attachment points are formed from loops in a material, and

wherein the material forming the loops is a nylon webbing;

a plurality of reinforcement patches,

wherein the first carry strap, the second carry strap, the plurality of carry handles, and the at least two attachment points are connected to the plurality of reinforcement patches, and

wherein the reinforcement patches are attached to the outer shell;

a bottom,

wherein the bottom includes a reinforcement strip; and

a closure configured to seal the opening,

wherein the closure substantially resists liquid from exiting the opening when the insulating container is in any orientation.

57. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the first carry strap, the second carry strap, the plurality of carry handles, and the at least two attachment points are sewn to the reinforcement patches, and wherein the reinforcement patches are secured to the outer shell.

58. The insulating container of claim 57 , wherein the reinforcement patches are welded to the outer shell.

59. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the insulating layer comprises a closed cell foam formed from one or more of an NBR and a PVC blend.

60. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the insulating layer comprises an EVA foam layer.

61. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the outer shell is water resistant and the inner liner is waterproof.

62. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the bottom includes a support ridge.

63. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the outer shell is a material selected from the group consisting of PVC, TPU, TPU coated nylon, double laminated TPU nylon fabric, and coated fabrics.

64. The insulating container of claim 56 , wherein the first carry strap, the second carry strap, or the plurality of carry handles are configured to support at least 100 lbs.
