Abstract

Systems and methods for configuring a security sensor are provided. Some methods can include receiving user input identifying a configuration setting of the security sensor through a user input device located on the security sensor, identifying the configuration setting based on the user input, transmitting a registration message to a security system control panel identifying the configuration setting, and operating in accordance with the configuration setting.

Claims (33)

1. A method comprising:

displaying a plurality of working modes of a security sensor on a display device of the security, sensor;

receiving user input identifying one of the plurality of working modes through a user input device located on the security sensor;

identifying the one of the plurality of working modes based on the user input;

transmitting a registration message from the security sensor to a control panel identifying the one of the plurality of working modes; and

operating in accordance with the one of the plurality of working modes.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a selection of a single working mode button located on the security sensor; and

responsive to the selection, shuffling through a display of each of the plurality of working modes on the display device.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

displaying the single working mode button as an icon on a touch screen of the display device.

4. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

responsive to the selection, shuffling through the display of each of the plurality of working modes that is available to the security sensor.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the selection is determinative of each of the plurality of working modes that is available to the security sensor.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein the selection identifies a type or an identity of a user operating the security sensor.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the user input device includes a button or an icon on a touch screen of the display device.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein one of the plurality of working modes corresponds to a partial alarm mode that configures the security sensor to be active when the control panel is operating with an arm-away status.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein one of the plurality of working modes corresponds to a total alarm mode that configures the security sensor to be active when the control panel is operating with either an arm-away status or an arm-stay status.

10. A method comprising:

receiving user input through a user input device located on a security sensor that is registered with a control panel as being associated with a first zone of a monitored area; and

responsive to the user input, reregistering the security sensor with the control panel as being associated with a second zone of the monitored area.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein reregistering the security sensor includes transmitting a disassociation message from the security sensor to the control panel to disassociate the security sensor from the first zone and transmitting an association message from the security sensor to the control panel to associate the security sensor with the second zone.

12. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

reregistering the security sensor without changing a working mode of the security sensor.

13. The method of claim 10 wherein the second zone includes an ambient zone of the monitored area relative to the security sensor.

14. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

changing a working mode of the security sensor.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

identifying the working mode based on the ambient zone.

16. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

identifying the working mode based on the user input.

17. The method of claim 10 wherein the user input device includes a physical button, a physical toggle, or a display device.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the physical button includes an annex mode button, wherein the physical toggle includes an annex mode position, or wherein the display device displays an annex mode icon.
