Abstract

An air treatment apparatus has a momentum separator positioned in an air flow path. The momentum separator has an upper wall, a lower wall, a sidewall extending between the upper and lower walls and a momentum separator air inlet. The upper wall comprises an upper screen and an upper end wall is spaced from and faces the upper screen wherein an upper air flow chamber is positioned between the upper end wall and the upper screen.

Claims (24)

1. A docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner comprising:

a. an air flow path extending from an air treatment apparatus air inlet to an air treatment apparatus air outlet;

b. a momentum separator positioned in the air flow path, the momentum separator having an upper wall, a lower wall, a first sidewall extending between the upper and lower walls and a momentum separator air inlet provided in the sidewall, the upper wall comprises an upper screen wherein the first sidewall in which the momentum separator air inlet is provided also comprises a side screen; and,

c. an upper end wall spaced from and facing the upper screen wherein an upper air flow chamber is positioned between the upper end wall and the upper screen.

2. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein air exiting the momentum separator air inlet is directed horizontally towards the sidewall and the upper screen is positioned above the momentum separator air inlet.

3. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein air exiting the momentum separator air inlet is directed horizontally and downwardly towards the sidewall and the upper screen is positioned above the momentum separator air inlet.

4. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein air exiting the momentum separator air inlet is directed downwardly and the upper screen is positioned above the momentum separator air inlet.

5. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 4 further comprising a deflector positioned on the upper wall.

6. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein the lower wall comprises an openable door.

7. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein the upper screen comprises a majority of the upper wall.

8. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 wherein the upper screen comprises over 50%, over 60%, over 70%, over 80%, over 90% of the upper sidewall.

9. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 further comprising a second sidewall that is opposed to the first sidewall and the side screen comprises a majority of the first sidewall.

10. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 9 wherein the side screen comprises over 50%, over 60%, over 70%, over 80%, over 90% of the first sidewall.

11. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 1 further comprising an end wall spaced from and facing the side screen wherein an up flow chamber is positioned exterior to the momentum separator between the end wall and the side screen.

12. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 11 wherein the momentum separator has a bottom openable door.

13. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 12 wherein the lower wall comprises an openable momentum separator door and the momentum separator door and the up flow chamber door are concurrently openable.

14. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 11 wherein the up flow chamber has a bottom openable up flow chamber door.

15. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 11 wherein the up flow chamber and the upper air flow chamber continue downstream to a downstream air treatment member.

16. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 15 wherein the up flow chamber and the upper air flow chamber merge upstream of the downstream air treatment member.

17. A docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner comprising:

a. an air flow path extending from an air treatment apparatus air inlet to an air treatment apparatus air outlet;

b. a momentum separator positioned in the air flow path, the momentum separator having an upper wall, a lower wall, a sidewall extending between the upper and lower walls and a momentum separator air inlet, the upper wall comprises an upper screen wherein all of the upper screen is positioned above an uppermost end of the momentum separator air inlet, the momentum separator air inlet directs air other than at the upper screen and the lower wall comprises an openable door; and,

c. an upper end wall spaced from and facing the upper screen wherein an upper air flow chamber is positioned between the upper end wall and the upper screen.

18. The docking station for a vacuum cleaner or a vacuum cleaner of claim 17 wherein air exiting the momentum separator air inlet is directed horizontally towards the sidewall.
