Abstract

The present invention relates to a physiological monitoring device. Some embodiments of the invention allow for long-term monitoring of physiological signals. Further embodiments may also allow for the monitoring of secondary signals such as motion.

Claims (15)

1. An electronic device for monitoring physiological signals in a mammal, the device comprising:

a plurality of wings extending laterally from a housing, each wing configured to conform to a surface of the mammal and comprising a lower substrate layer, an upper substrate layer, and a bottom surface comprising an adhesive, the adhesive configured to adhere to the skin of the mammal;

an electrode positioned on each wing, each electrode configured to provide conformal contact with a non-planar surface of the skin of the mammal during movement of the mammal;

an electrode trace positioned between each upper substrate layer and each lower substrate layer, each electrode trace extending outward from the housing, each electrode and at least a portion of each electrode trace configured to remain conformal with the skin of the mammal during bending of the skin:

a printed circuit board housed within the housing, the housing comprising a patient trigger configured to depress and record an instance of a perceived cardiac event, the patient trigger configured such that when the patient trigger is depressed, the patient trigger activates and depresses an inner trigger mechanism, which activates a patient trigger input of the printed circuit board; and

a support post positioned beneath the printed circuit board, the patient trigger input, and the inner trigger mechanism, the support post configured to remain rigid during depression of the patient trigger such that force from depression of the patient trigger input is transmitted through the printed circuit board to the support post.

2. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein force from depression of the patient trigger is transmitted through the hardware processor into the support post without creating a significant bending moment.

3. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the patient trigger covers a majority of a top surface of the housing.

4. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the patient trigger is concave.

5. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the patient trigger is larger than an adult human finger.

6. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the support post is integral to the housing.

7. The electronic device of claim 3 , wherein the support post is constructed from a same material as the housing.

8. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein each wing comprises a rim, wherein each rim is thinner than an adjacent portion of each wing.

9. The electronic device of claim 8 , wherein each rim is configured to prevent the release of a portion of the wing from the surface of the mammal.

10. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the electrode traces are configured to minimize signal distortion during movement of the mammal.
