Abstract

A system and a method are disclosed for prompting a user of an accommodation management system to host an accommodation during an event. In an embodiment, the accommodation management system detects an event occurring in a geographic region. The accommodation management system identifies a user in the geographic region and determines an estimated hosting value of the user hosting an accommodation during the event. Responsive to determining the estimated hosting value, the accommodation management system identifies an accommodation listing on a wish list associated with the user based on the estimated hosting value and a reservation criterion of the listing. The accommodation management system outputs a prompt to the user recommending that the user hosts an accommodation during the event based on the identified listing.

Claims (66)

1 . A method comprising:

determining an event will occur, on a future date, in a geographic region in which a user has registered on an accommodation management system;

determining an estimated hosting value of the user hosting a guest user during the event;

identifying a listing for an accommodation that was added to a wish list by the user, the listing having a reservation criterion; and

responsive to determining that that the estimated hosting value satisfies the criterion, outputting, by the accommodation management system, a prompt to the user to host the guest user during the event, the prompt specifying the listing.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the listing was added to the wish list by:

displaying, by the accommodation management system, an interface describing the listing including an interactable object for adding the accommodation to the wish list;

receiving an interaction with the interactable object from the user; and

adding, responsive to the interaction, the listing to the wish list.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the listing was added to the wish list by:

storing, by the accommodation management system, a set of profile data describing the user's interactions with the accommodation management system;

determining, based on the set of profile data, a likelihood of the user booking the listing; and

adding, based on the likelihood exceeding a threshold, the listing to the wish list.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein determining the likelihood comprises:

inputting the profile data and a set of characteristics of the listing into a machine learned model; and

receiving the likelihood as output from the model.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

collecting, by the accommodation management system, a set of data describing interactions of a plurality of users with the accommodation management system;

collecting, by the accommodation management system, characteristics of a plurality of accommodation listings on the accommodation management system; and

training the model to predict the likelihood of the user booking the listing using the set of data describing interactions of a plurality of users and characteristics of a plurality of accommodations.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the estimated hosting value of the user hosting the guest user during the event comprises:

accessing a host listing hosted by the user;

identifying characteristics of the host listing; and

determining the estimated hosting value based on the characteristics of the host listing.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the prompt specifies the host listing, and wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, responsive to an interaction by the user with the prompt, confirmation from the user to host the host listing.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining the estimated hosting value comprises:

storing, by the accommodation management system, data describing accommodation booking activity of users of the accommodation management system, the data including accommodation booking activity during one or more events;

determining, based on the booking activity, a likelihood of a second user booking the host listing at each of a plurality of candidate estimated hosting values; and

selecting the estimated hosting value from the plurality of candidate estimated hosting values based on the likelihood.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein determining the likelihood comprises:

determine a first set of characteristics of the second accommodation listing and a second set of characteristics of the event; and

for each candidate estimated hosting value of the plurality of candidate estimated hosting values:

inputting the set of characteristics of the second accommodation, the set of characteristics of the event, and the candidate estimated hosting value into a machine learned model; and

receiving the likelihood as output from the model.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

collecting, by the accommodation management system, a set of data describing accommodation booking activity of a plurality of users on the accommodation management system; and

training the model to predict the likelihood of the second user booking the second accommodation listing using the set of data describing accommodation booking activity of a plurality of users.

11 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the prompt is displayed using an interface which includes descriptions of the first accommodation, the second accommodation, and the event.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the interface includes one or more dates associated with a stay of the user at the second accommodation.

13 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

determining that the user is not hosting on the accommodation management system;

prompting, by the accommodation management system, the user to create the host listing;

receiving information describing an accommodation associated with the user; and

creating the host listing based on the information describing the accommodation.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wish list includes a plurality of accommodation listings.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein identifying the accommodation listing on the wish list comprises:

comparing the estimated hosting value to the reservation criteria of each listing of the plurality of accommodation listings; and

identifying, based on the comparison, the listing from the plurality of accommodation listings based on the estimated hosting value satisfying the listing's reservation criterion.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the prompt specifies each accommodation listing of a second plurality of accommodation listings with which have reservation criteria satisfying the estimated hosting value.

17 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing, responsive to the user hosting the guest user during the event, a booking of the accommodation listing for the user.

18 . A system comprising one or more processors configured to execute instructions that cause the processor to:

determine an event will occur, on a future date, in a geographic region in which a user has registered on an online accommodation t system;

determine an estimated hosting value of the user hosting a guest user during the event;

identify a listing for an accommodation that was added to a wish list by the user, the listing having a reservation criterion; and

responsive to determining that that the estimated hosting value satisfies the criterion, output, by the accommodation management system, a prompt to the user to host the guest user during the event, the prompt specifying the listing.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein determining the estimated hosting value of the user hosting the guest user during the event further comprises instructions that cause the processor to:

access a host listing hosted by the user;

identify characteristics of the host listing; and

determine the estimated hosting value based on the characteristics of the host listing.

20 . A computer readable medium configured to store instructions, the instructions when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform operations, the instructions comprising instructions to:

determine an event will occur, on a future date, in a geographic region in which a user has registered on an accommodation management system;

determine an estimated hosting value of the user hosting a guest user during the event;

identify a listing for an accommodation that was added to a wish list by the user, the listing having a reservation criterion; and

responsive to determining that that the estimated hosting value satisfies the criterion, output, by the accommodation management system, a prompt to the user to host the guest user during the event, the prompt specifying the listing.
