Claims (43)

1. A method of a computing system, the method comprising:

storing, with a processor of the computing system, a customer profile for each customer of a plurality of customers in an electronic database of the computing system, wherein each customer profile comprises a first product catalog and a second product catalog for the respective customer, the first product catalog comprises first products having a first property in common, and a second product catalog comprises second products having a second property in common;

receiving, via a network interface of the computing system, a request from a client computing device of a first customer of the plurality of customers; and

in response to receiving the request:

selecting, with the processor of the computing system, a second customer of the plurality of customers in response to a first product in a first product catalog for the first customer matching a second product in a second product catalog for the second customer; and

causing, with the processor of the computing system, the client computing device to present to the first customer via a display of the client computing device, a user interface comprising a user interface control configured, in response to being activated by the first customer, to initiate an electronic communication directed to the second customer;

wherein the first property in common with the first products in the first product catalog for a respective customer is that the respective customer owns the first products in the first product catalog; and

wherein the second property in common with the second products in the second product catalog for a respective customer is that the respective customer wants to purchase the second products in the second product catalog.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

storing, in the customer profile for each customer of the plurality of customers, relationship designations that identify personal relationships between the respective customer and other customers of the plurality of customers; and

limiting the selection of the second customer to a subset of the plurality of customers with a personal relationship with the first customer.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by directing an e-mail message to the second customer.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by directing an instant message to the second customer.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein causing to present the user interface comprises simultaneously displaying both information regarding a first product of the first products and the user interface control.

7. A computing system, comprising:

a mass storage device configured to store a customer profile for each customer of a plurality of customers, wherein each customer profile comprises a product catalog and relationship designations for the respective customer, and wherein the relationship designations identify personal relationships between the respective customer and other customers of the plurality of customers;

a network interface configured to receive and transmit information; and

a processor configured to:

receive a request from a client computing device of a first customer of the plurality of customers via the network interface;

in response to the request, search product catalogs of customers whose respective relationship designations specify a relationship with the first customer and select a second customer of the plurality of customers in response to a first product in a first product catalog for the first customer matching a second product in a second product catalog for the second customer; and

transmit signals, via the network interface, that cause the client computing device of the first customer to present a user interface comprising a user interface control configured, in response to being activated by the first customer, to initiate an electronic communication directed to the second customer;

wherein a first property in common with products in the first product catalog for the first customer is that the first customer owns the products in the first product catalog; and

wherein a second property in common with products in the second product catalog for the second customer is that the second customer wants to purchase the products in the second product catalog.

8. The computing system of claim 7 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by sending an e-mail message to the second customer.

9. The computing system of claim 7 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by sending an instant message to the second customer.

10. The computing system of claim 7 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

11. The computing system of claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to transmit the signals so as to cause the client computing device to simultaneously display both information regarding the first product and the user interface control.

12. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions, that in response to being executed, cause a computing system to:

store a customer profile for each customer of a plurality of customers in an electronic database of the computing system, wherein each customer profile comprises a plurality of product catalogs for the respective customer;

receive a request from a client computing device of a first customer of the plurality of customers;

in response to the request, search product catalogs of other customers for a product in a first product catalog of the first customer and in a second product catalog of a second customer and select the second customer of the plurality of customers in response to the search finding the product in the first product catalog for the first customer and in the second product catalog for the second customer; and

present, to the first customer via the client computing device, a user interface comprising a user interface control configured, in response to being activated by the first customer, to initiate an electronic communication directed to the second customer;

wherein a first property in common with products in the first product catalog for the first customer is that the first customer owns the products in the first product catalog; and

wherein a second property in common with products in the second product catalog for the second customer is that the second customer wants to purchase the products in the second product catalog.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to:

identify additional products that are present in at least one of the product catalogs for the first customer and in at least one of the product catalogs for the second customer; and

present, to the first customer via the user interface, information that identifies additional products, respective product catalogs of the first customer in which the additional products are listed, and respective product catalogs of the second customer in which the additional products are listed.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by sending an e-mail message to the second customer.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by sending an instant message to the second customer.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to simultaneously display both information regarding the first product and the user interface control.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to determine that the request is for a product listing of the first product.
