Abstract

An energy deposit determining system and method are provided that determines a productive lease or well. The system and method may be used for oil wells, gas wells, oil and gas explorations and/or mineral leases.

Claims (51)

1. A computing system, comprising:

one or more hardware processors; and

one or more memory modules that store a set of geologic parameters associated with each well of a plurality of existing wells in an area, the one or more memory modules further storing instructions executable by the one or more hardware processors to perform operations comprising:

identifying one or more existing geologic wells and one or more existing production wells in the plurality of existing wells in the area, each of the one or more existing geologic wells comprising an associated set of geologic parameters and each existing production well comprising a production measure that includes an oil production measure and a gas production matter;

interpolating the sets of geologic parameters, each of the sets of geologic parameters comprising a first geologic parameter associated with a first location of the particular existing well and a second geologic parameter associated with a second location of the particular existing well, where the first location is a heel of the particular existing well and the second location is a toe of particular existing well;

based on the interpolated sets of geologic parameters, determining estimated geologic parameters for at least one new well location in the area;

generating, based on the production measure for each existing production well, a statistical model that generates an estimated production for the at least one new location well in the area having the estimated geologic parameters, where generating the statistical model comprises generating a linear model that uses as inputs geologic parameters that are estimated at the heel and the toe;

based on at least one of the estimated geologic parameters or the estimated production, generating a grade for the at least one new well location in the area; and

generating a graphical representation of the grade for the at least one new well location for display on a graphical user interface (GUI).

2. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, and the operations further comprise:

collecting the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.

3. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein generating the statistical model comprises generating the linear model using a linear regression with a b-spline.

4. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein generating the linear model that uses as inputs geologic parameters that are estimated at the heel, the toe, and at least one location on the particular existing well between the heel and the toe.

5. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprising:

selecting a subset of the plurality of existing wells to generate the linear model in a linear regression; and

selecting a predetermined number of regression terms for use in the linear regression.

6. The computing system of claim 5 , wherein the predetermined number is thirty.

7. The computing system of claim 6 , wherein the area comprises an energy deposit is at least one of oil, oil and gas, gas, or minerals.

8. The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the area comprises an energy deposit is at least one of oil, oil and gas, gas, or minerals.

9. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

identifying, with one or more hardware processors, one or more existing geologic wells and one or more existing production wells in a plurality of existing wells in an area, each of the one or more existing geologic wells comprising an associated set of geologic parameters and each existing production well comprising a production measure that includes an oil production measure and a gas production matter;

interpolating, with the one or more hardware processors, the sets of geologic parameters, each of the sets of geologic parameters comprising a first geologic parameter associated with a first location of the particular existing well and a second geologic parameter associated with a second location of the particular existing well, where the first location is a heel of the particular existing well and the second location is a toe of the particular existing well;

based on the interpolated sets of geologic parameters, determining, with the one or more hardware processors, estimated geologic parameters for at least one new well location in the area;

based on the production measure for each existing production well, generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a statistical model that generates an estimated production for the at least one new location well in the area having the estimated geologic parameters, where generating the statistical model comprises generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a linear model that uses as inputs geologic parameters that are estimated at the heel and the toe;

based on at least one of the estimated geologic parameters or the estimated production, generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a grade for the at least one new well location in the area; and

generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a graphical representation of the grade for the at least one new well location for display on a graphical user interface (GUI).

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, the method further comprising:

collecting, with the one or more hardware processors, the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein generating the statistical model comprises:

generating, with the one or more hardware processors, the linear model using a linear regression with a b-spline.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising generating the linear model that uses as inputs geologic parameters that are estimated at the heel, the toe, and at least one location on the particular existing well between the heel and the toe.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising:

selecting, with the one or more hardware processors, a subset of the plurality of existing wells to generate the linear model in a linear regression; and

selecting, with the one or more hardware processors, a predetermined number of regression terms for use in the linear regression.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the predetermined number is thirty.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the area comprises an energy deposit is at least one of oil, oil and gas, gas, or minerals.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the area comprises an energy deposit is at least one of oil, oil and gas, gas, or minerals.

17. The computing system of claim 3 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, and the operations further comprise:

collecting the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.

18. The computing system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, and the operations further comprise:

collecting the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, the method further comprising:

collecting, with the one or more hardware processors, the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one new well locations comprises a plurality of new well locations, the method further comprising:

collecting, with the one or more hardware processors, the generated grade for each new well location of the plurality of new well locations, where each generated grade is a unique grade associated with a particular new well location of the plurality of new well locations; and

generating, with the one or more hardware processors, a graphical representation of the collected grades for the plurality of new well locations for display on the GUI.
