Abstract

Partial-image search criteria are derived that include a combination of multiple partial-image user selections of portions of at least one image. Visual search results are returned responsive to a search for images that correspond to the derived partial-image search criteria. The visual search results include at least one identified image that includes features that correspond to the derived partial-image search criteria that include the combination of the multiple partial-image user selections.

Claims (52)

1. A method for performing a search using at least a first image comprising a plurality of image portions, the method comprising:

using at least one computer processor to perform:

obtaining, via a graphical user interface, a first input from a user indicating multiple user selections, by the user, of multiple respective image portions of the plurality of image portions of at least the first image;

generating search criteria using the first input indicating the selections of the multiple image portions; and

obtaining search results based on a search for one or more images using the generated search criteria, the search results comprising at least a second image having features that correspond to the search criteria.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining search terms corresponding to the multiple image portions; and

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the search terms as text in association with the multiple image portions.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

submitting a search query, obtained using the search criteria, to a search engine; and

obtaining the search results from the search engine.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining a first input from a user indicating multiple user selections, by the user, of multiple respective image portions comprises obtaining input indicating a user selection of each of the plurality of image portions of the first image.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first image comprises an image of a consumer product and the multiple image portions depict features of the consumer product.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the multiple image portions in an ordered sequence.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

updating the search criteria based on a second input obtained via the graphical user interface, the second input indicating a change to the ordered sequence.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the second input comprises: input indicating an adjustment of positions in which the multiple image portions are presented in the graphical user interface or input indicating deletion of at least one image portion of the multiple image portions.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

updating the search criteria based on a second input obtained via the graphical user interface, the second input indicating a change to a priority associated with an image portion of the multiple image portions.

10. A system for performing a search using at least a first image comprising a plurality of image portions, the system comprising:

at least one computer processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one computer processor, cause the at least one computer processor to perform a method comprising:

obtaining, via a graphical user interface, a first input from a user indicating multiple user selections, by the user, of multiple respective image portions of the plurality of image portions of at least the first image;

generating search criteria using the first input indicating the selections of the multiple image portions; and

obtaining search results based on a search for one or more images using the generated search criteria, the search results comprising at least a second image having features that correspond to the search criteria.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:

determining one or more search terms corresponding to one or more image portions of the multiple image portions; and

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the one or more search terms as text in association with the one or more image portions.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:

submitting a search query, obtained using the search criteria, to a search engine; and

obtaining the search results from the search engine.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first image comprises an image of a consumer product and the multiple image portions depict features of the consumer product.

14. The system of claim 10 , where the method further comprises:

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the one or more multiple image portions in an ordered sequence.

15. The system of claim 14 , where the method further comprises:

updating the search criteria based on a second input obtained via the graphical user interface, the second input indicating a change to the ordered sequence.

16. The system of claim 10 , where the method further comprises:

updating the search criteria based on a second input indicating a change to a priority associated with an image portion of the multiple image portions.

17. At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing processor-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one computer processor, cause the at least one computer processor to perform a method for performing a search using at least a first image comprising a plurality of image portions, the method comprising:

obtaining, via a graphical user interface, a first input from a user indicating multiple user selections, by the user, of multiple respective image portions of the plurality of image portions of at least the first image;

generating search criteria using the first input indicating the selections of the multiple image portions; and

obtaining search results based on a search for one or more images using the generated search criteria, the search results comprising at least a second image having features that correspond to the search criteria.

18. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises:

determining one or more search terms corresponding to one or more of the multiple image portions; and

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the one or more search terms as text in association with the one or more image portions.

19. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises:

submitting a search query, obtained using the search criteria, to a search engine; and

obtaining the search results from the search engine.

20. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises:

presenting, in the graphical user interface, the multiple image portions in an ordered sequence; and

updating the search criteria based on a second input indicating a change to the ordered sequence.
