Abstract

A sample collection system can include a sample collection vessel having a sample collection chamber with an opening configured to receive a sample into the sample collection chamber. The sample collection system can additionally include a selectively movable sleeve valve configured to associate with the opening of the sample collection chamber. The sample collection system can include a sealing cap that is configured to associate with the selectively movable sleeve valve and with the sample collection vessel. The sealing cap can include a reagent chamber having reagent(s) stored therein, and when the sealing cap is associated with the sample collection vessel, the selectively movable sleeve valve opens, dispensing the reagent(s) into the sample collection chamber. When the selectively moveable sleeve associates with the sample collection chamber, an outer sleeve slides relative to an inner vessel, opening the sleeve and dispensing reagent into the sample collection chamber.

Claims (34)

1. A sample collection system, comprising:

a sample collection vessel for receiving a sample;

a sealing cap configured to be removably engaged with the sample collection vessel;

an inner vessel securely engaged with the sealing cap, the inner vessel for storing a reagent, the inner vessel comprising a body and a fluid vent located on the body;

and

an outer sleeve frictionally engaged with the inner vessel, the outer sleeve slidable translationally relative to the inner vessel between a first position and a second

position, the outer sleeve at the first position covering the fluid vent and at the second position opening the fluid vent, wherein, when the sample collection vessel is fully engaged with the sealing cap, the sample collection vessel is configured to push the outer sleeve to the second position, thereby opening the fluid vent wherein the outer sleeve comprises an inner layer and an outer layer, and the inner layer is made of a first material and an outer layer is made of a second material, different from the first material.

2. The sample collection system of claim 1 , wherein the second material is stiffer than the first material.

3. The sample collection system of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve comprises a ridge protruding from an outer surface of the outer sleeve, the ridge is configured to be in contact with a top surface of the sample collection vessel when the sample collection vessel engages with the sealing cap.

4. The sample collection system of claim 1 , when the sealing cap comprises a first set of screw threads and the sample collection vessel comprises a second set of screw threads that is complementary to the first set of screw threads.

5. The sample collection system of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve at the first position covers a first location of the inner vessel having a first outer diameter, and wherein, when the sample collection vessel is fully engaged with the sealing cap, the outer sleeve is displaced away from the first location to a second location of the inner vessel having a second outer diameter, the first outer diameter larger than the second outer diameter.

6. The sample collection system of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve is configured to create a resistance when the sample collection vessel pushes the outer sleeve to the second position.

7. The sample collection system of claim 1 , wherein when the sample collection vessel is fully engaged with the sealing cap, the sample collection vessel and the outer sleeve are configured to remain in contact.

8. The sample collection system of claim 7 , wherein sample collection vessel and the outer sleeve, remaining in contact, form a seal.

9. A sealing cap for removably engaging with a sample collection vessel for receiving a sample, the sealing cap comprising:

an outer cap;

an inner vessel securely engaged with the sealing cap, the inner vessel for storing a reagent, the inner vessel comprising a body and a fluid vent located on the body;

and

an outer sleeve frictionally engaged with the inner vessel, the outer sleeve slidable translationally relative to the inner vessel between a first position and a second position, the outer sleeve at the first position covering the fluid vent and at the second position opening the fluid vent wherein the outer sleeve is comprised of an inner layer and an outer layer, and the inner layer is made of a first material and an outer layer is made of a second material, different from the first material.

10. The sealing cap of claim 9 , wherein the second material is stiffer than the first material.

11. The sealing cap of claim 9 , wherein the outer sleeve comprises a ridge protruding from an outer surface of the outer sleeve.

12. A sample collection system, comprising:

a sample collection vessel for receiving a sample;

a sealing cap configured to be removably engaged with the sample collection vessel;

an inner vessel securely engaged with the sealing cap, the inner vessel configured to store

a reagent, the inner vessel comprising:

(i) a cylindrical body, the cylindrical body comprising a fluid vent,

(ii) a raised area on the cylindrical body, the raised area surrounding the fluid vent; and

an outer sleeve movably engaged with the inner vessel and in contact with the outer sleeve, wherein the outer sleeve is configured to cover the fluid vent when the sealing cap is disengaged with the sample collection vessel, and wherein the outer sleeve configured to be moved relative to the inner vessel to open the fluid vent when the sealing cap is engaged with the sample collection vessel, thereby dispensing the reagent into the sample collection vessel through the fluid vent wherein the raised area comprising a first ridge and a second ridge that line an exterior sidewall of the cylindrical body of the inner vessel.

13. The sample collection system of claim 4 , wherein the raised area further comprises a surface ring between the first and second ridges, the surface ring surrounding the fluid vent.

14. The sample collection system of claim 13 , wherein the fluid vent surrounded by the surface ring of the raised area is located at a circumferential surface of the cylindrical body of the inner vessel.

15. The sample collection system of claim 12 , wherein the raised area comprises a plurality of ridges, each of the ridges configured at a range of depths and widths and equally spaced along an exterior sidewall of the cylindrical body of the inner vessel.

16. The sample collection system of claim 15 , wherein each of the ridges are spaced at varying distances apart over the exterior sidewall.

17. The sample collection system of claim 12 , wherein the raised area frictionally engages with an inner sidewall of the outer sleeve to form a fluid-tight seal between the inner vessel and the outer sleeve around the fluid vent of the inner vessel.
