Abstract

A method for managing payment submissions includes receiving, at an acquirer computing system, an authorization request submitted by a merchant computing system for a transaction of a predefined amount, the merchant computing system being associated with a merchant, and the authorization request identifying account information for an account that is associated with a payment card network and an issuer processor; and re-transmitting the authorization request for less than the predefined amount and greater than a configurable threshold value, until the authorization request is approved by the issuer processor or until the authorization request falls below the configurable threshold value.

Claims (65)

1. A method for managing authorization requests for recurring transactions, the method comprising:

receiving, at a payment processing computing system, an authorization request via one or more user interface elements of an input device associated with a merchant point of sale (POS) device for a purchase transaction, wherein the authorization request includes account information for an account holder that is associated with a payment card network and an issuer processor;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, one or more parameters for the purchase transaction, wherein the one or more parameters comprise an expected value for the purchase transaction and a configurable threshold value of the purchase transaction;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a historical dataset of processing results;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value, based on the one or more parameters and the historical dataset of processing results;

transmitting, by the payment processing computing system, the authorization request to the issuer processor for an approval of the purchase transaction for the reduced value; and

generating, by the payment processing computing system, a presentation of an approval of the authorization request in a user interface of an output device associated with the merchant POS device,

wherein if the issuer processor declines the purchase transaction having the reduced value for insufficient funds, the method further comprises re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval, and

wherein re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval comprises an iterative reduction of the reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value in each re-transmitted authorization request until an approval is received from the issuer processor by the payment processing computing system.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by an incremental percentage; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the incremental percentage.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by a unit value; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the unit value.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reduced value is a percentage of the expected value.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an authorization result from the issuer processor; and

updating the historical dataset of processing results using the received authorization result.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the payment processing computing system to the merchant POS device, an indication of an approved authorization when the issuer processor approves the authorization request.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the purchase transaction is one of a series of recurring transactions of the expected value.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a program causing a computer to execute a method for managing authorization requests for recurring transactions, the method comprising:

receiving, at a payment processing computing system, an authorization request via one or more user interface elements of an input device associated with a merchant point of sale (POS) device for a purchase transaction, wherein the authorization request includes account information for an account holder that is associated with a payment card network and an issuer processor;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, one or more parameters for the purchase transaction, wherein the one or more parameters comprise an expected value for the purchase transaction and a configurable threshold value of the purchase transaction;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a historical dataset of processing results;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value, based on the one or more parameters and the historical dataset of processing results;

transmitting, by the payment processing computing system, the authorization request to the issuer processor for an approval of the purchase transaction for the reduced value; and

generating, by the payment processing computing system, a presentation of an approval of the authorization request in a user interface of an output device associated with the merchant POS device,

wherein if the issuer processor declines the purchase transaction having the reduced value for insufficient funds, the method further comprises re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval, and

wherein re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval comprises an iterative reduction of the reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value in each re-transmitted authorization request until an approval is received from the issuer processor by the payment processing computing system.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by an incremental percentage; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the incremental percentage.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by a unit value; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the unit value.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the reduced value is a percentage of the expected value.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving an authorization result from the issuer processor; and

updating the historical dataset of processing results using the received authorization result.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the payment processing computing system to the merchant POS device, an indication of an approved authorization when the issuer processor approves the authorization request.

14. A computing system for managing authorization requests for recurring transactions, the computing system comprising a non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon which when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving, at a payment processing computing system, an authorization request via one or more user interface elements of an input device associated with a merchant point of sale (POS) device for a purchase transaction, wherein the authorization request includes account information for an account holder that is associated with a payment card network and an issuer processor;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, one or more parameters for the purchase transaction, wherein the one or more parameters comprise an expected value for the purchase transaction and a configurable threshold value of the purchase transaction;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a historical dataset of processing results;

determining, by the payment processing computing system, a reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value, based on the one or more parameters and the historical dataset of processing results;

transmitting, by the payment processing computing system, the authorization request to the issuer processor for an approval of the purchase transaction for the reduced value; and

generating, by the payment processing computing system, a presentation of an approval of the authorization request in a user interface of an output device associated with the merchant POS device,

wherein if the issuer processor declines the purchase transaction having the reduced value for insufficient funds, the method further comprises re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval, and

wherein re-transmitting the authorization request to the issuer processor for approval comprises an iterative reduction of the reduced value that is less than the expected value and greater than the configurable threshold value in each re-transmitted authorization request until an approval is received from the issuer processor by the payment processing computing system.

15. The system of claim 14 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by an incremental percentage; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the incremental percentage.

16. The system of claim 14 , further comprising:

iteratively reducing the reduced value by a unit value; and

iteratively re-transmitting the authorization request, based on reducing the reduced value by the unit value.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the reduced value is a percentage of the expected value.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the instructions executed by the processor further cause the processor to:

receive an electronic transaction result from the issuer processor; and

update the historical dataset of processing results using the received electronic transaction result.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the instructions executed by the processor further cause the processor to:

transmit, by the payment processing computing system to the merchant POS device, an indication of an approved authorization when the issuer processor approves the authorization request.

20. The system of claim 14 , wherein the purchase transaction is one of a series of recurring transactions of the expected value.
