Abstract

A carrier includes first and second container portions that are assembled together to provide a structure the supports and retains a capacitor. The first container portion and the second container portion are assembled together in a configuration in which the edges of the first wall structures face corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures, and the edges of the first wall structures are overlapping with respect to the corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures when the carrier is viewed in side view.

Claims (92)

1. A carrier for a capacitor, the carrier comprising:

a first container portion including first wall structures that are configured to receive and support a first portion of the capacitor, each first wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side; and

a second container portion including second wall structures that are configured to receive and support a second portion of the capacitor, each second wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side,

wherein

when the first container portion and the second container portion are assembled together in an assembled configuration in which the edges of the first wall structures face corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures, the edges of the first wall structures are parallel to the corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures.

2. The carrier of claim 1 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each define

a hemi-cylindrical portion that is shaped and dimensioned to receive a portion of a casing of the capacitor, and

a rectangular prism portion that is shaped and dimensioned to receive a portion of each of a first capacitor lead of the capacitor and a second capacitor lead of the capacitor, and

the edges of each of the first wall structures and the second wall structures surround at least a portion of each of the hemi-cylindrical portion and the rectangular prism portion.

3. The carrier of claim 1 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

a first longitudinal wall portion;

a second longitudinal wall portion that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first longitudinal wall portion being parallel to the edge of the second longitudinal wall portion;

a first transverse wall portion that is perpendicular to, and extends between, the first longitudinal wall portion and the second longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first transverse wall portion including a first transverse edge portion and a second transverse edge portion; and

a second transverse wall portion that is parallel to the first transverse wall portion, the edge of the second transverse wall portion including a third transverse edge portion and a fourth transverse edge portion, and wherein

the first transverse edge portion is parallel to the third transverse edge portion,

the second transverse edge portion is parallel to the fourth transverse edge portion, and

the first transverse edge portion is angled relative to the second transverse edge portion.

4. The carrier of claim 3 , wherein the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include

a third longitudinal wall portion that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion, and extends between the first transverse wall portion and the second transverse wall portion, wherein

the edge of the third longitudinal wall portion is parallel to the edge of the first longitudinal wall portion.

5. The carrier of claim 3 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include a floor member, and

a distance of the third transverse edge portion from the floor member is different than a distance of the fourth transverse edge portion from the floor member.

6. The carrier of claim 1 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

a first wall portion including a first wall portion edge;

a second wall portion that is parallel to, and spaced apart from the first wall portion, the second wall portion including a second portion edge;

a third wall portion that extends between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, the third wall portion being curved so as to partially surround a longitudinal axis that is perpendicular to the first wall portion and the second wall portion, the third wall portion including:

a third wall portion edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, and

a fourth wall portion edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, and that is parallel to the third wall portion edge.

7. The carrier of claim 6 , wherein

the third wall portion includes a separating member that protrudes from an inner surface of the third side,

the separating member includes a curved separating member cut out that has dimensions that correspond to the shape and dimensions of a portion of a casing of the capacitor,

the separating member cut out is configured to face the portion of the casing, and

the separating member of the first container portion cooperates with the separating member of the second container portion to form an interior wall that is parallel to the first and second wall portions.

8. A capacitor carrier assembly comprising a carrier and a capacitor disposed in the carrier, the capacitor including:

a casing;

a first capacitor lead; and

a second capacitor lead, the first and second capacitor leads protruding from one end of the casing, and

the carrier including:

a first container portion including first wall structures that are configured to receive and support a first portion of the capacitor, each first wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side; and

a second container portion including second wall structures that are configured to receive and support a second portion of the capacitor, each second wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side,

wherein when the first container portion and the second container portion are assembled together in an assembled configuration in which the edges of the first wall structures face corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures, the edges of the first wall structures are parallel to the corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures.

9. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first wall structures and the second wall structures each define

a hemi-cylindrical portion that is shaped and dimensioned to receive a portion of the capacitor casing, and

a rectangular prism portion that is shaped and dimensioned to receive the first capacitor lead and the second capacitor lead,

and wherein the edges of each of the first wall structures and the second wall structures surround at least a portion of each of the hemi-cylindrical portion and the rectangular prism portion.

10. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 8 , wherein the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

a first longitudinal wall portion;

a second longitudinal wall portion that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first longitudinal wall portion being parallel to the edge of the second longitudinal wall portion;

a first transverse wall portion that is perpendicular to, and extends between, the first longitudinal wall portion and the second longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first transverse wall portion including a first transverse edge portion and a second transverse edge portion; and

a second transverse wall portion that is parallel to the first transverse wall portion, the edge of the second transverse wall portion including a third transverse edge portion and a fourth transverse edge portion, and wherein

the first transverse edge portion is parallel to the third transverse edge portion,

the second transverse edge portion is parallel to the fourth transverse edge portion, and

the first transverse edge portion is angled relative to the second transverse edge portion.

11. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 10 , wherein the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include

a third longitudinal wall portion that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion, disposed between the first capacitor lead and the second capacitor lead, and extends between the first transverse wall portion and the second transverse wall portion,

wherein

the edge of the third longitudinal wall portion is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion.

12. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 10 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include a floor member, and a distance of the third transverse edge portion from the floor member is different than a distance of the fourth transverse edge portion from the floor member.

13. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 8 , wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

a first wall portion including a first wall portion edge;

a second wall portion that is parallel to, and spaced apart from the first wall portion, the second wall portion including a second portion edge;

a third wall portion that extends between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, the third wall portion being curved so as to partially surround a longitudinal axis that is perpendicular to the first wall portion and the second wall portion, the third wall portion including:

a third wall portion edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, and

a fourth wall portion edge that extends longitudinally between the first wall portion and the second wall portion, and that is parallel to the third wall portion edge.

14. The capacitor carrier assembly of claim 13 , wherein

the third wall portion includes a separating member that protrudes from an inner surface of the third side,

the separating member includes a curved separating member cut out that has dimensions that correspond to the shape and dimensions of a portion of a casing of the capacitor,

the separating member cut out is configured to face the portion of the casing, and

the separating member of the first container portion cooperates with the separating member of the second container portion to form an interior wall that is parallel to the first and second wall portions.

15. A carrier for a capacitor, the carrier comprising:

a first container portion including first wall structures that are configured to receive and support

a first portion of the capacitor, each first wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side; and

a second container portion including second wall structures that are configured to receive and support a second portion of the capacitor, each second wall structure including a first side, a second side that is opposed to the first side, and an edge that joins the first side to the second side and is acutely angled relative to the first side and the second side,

wherein

when the first container portion and the second container portion are assembled together in an assembled configuration in which the edges of the first wall structures face corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures, the edges of the first wall structures are parallel to the corresponding ones of the edges of the second wall structures,

wherein

the first wall structures and the second wall structures each include:

a first longitudinal wall portion;

a second longitudinal wall portion that is parallel to the first longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first longitudinal wall portion being parallel to the edge of the second longitudinal wall portion;

a first transverse wall portion that is perpendicular to, and extends between, the first longitudinal wall portion and the second longitudinal wall portion, the edge of the first transverse wall portion including a first transverse edge portion and a second transverse edge portion; and

a second transverse wall portion that is parallel to the first transverse wall portion, the edge of the second transverse wall portion including a third transverse edge portion and a fourth transverse edge portion,

and wherein

the first transverse edge portion is parallel to the third transverse edge portion,

the second transverse edge portion is parallel to the fourth transverse edge portion, and

the first transverse edge portion is angled relative to the second transverse edge portion.
