Abstract

A first base station receives a handover trigger change from a second base station. The handover trigger change is for a handover between: at least one first beam of a first cell of the first base station; and at least one second beam of a second cell of the second base station. The handover trigger change indicates a request for a change of a handover threshold for the first base station initiating a handover from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam. The first base station makes, based on the change of the handover threshold, a handover decision for a wireless device from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam. The first base station transmits to the second base station, a handover request for the wireless device.

Claims (73)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a first base station from a second base station, a handover trigger change for handover between:

at least one first beam of a first cell of the first base station; and

at least one second beam of a second cell of the second base station;

wherein the handover trigger change indicates a request for a change of a handover threshold for the first base station initiating a handover from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam;

making, by the first base station and based on the change of the handover threshold, a handover decision for a wireless device from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam; and

transmitting, by the first base station to the second base station, a handover request for the wireless device.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the first base station from the second base station, at least one of:

a first cell identifier of the first cell;

a second cell identifier of the second cell;

at least one first beam index of the at least one first beam; or

at least one second beam index of the at least one second beam.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the handover trigger change comprises a power value.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the power value is associated with at least one of:

a reference signal received power; or

a reference signal received quality.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the first base station to the wireless device, a radio resource control message comprising a measurement configuration based on the handover trigger change.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving, by the first base station from the wireless device and based on the measurement configuration, a measurement report comprising at least one of:

at least one first received power value associated with the at least one first beam; or

at least one second received power value associated with the at least one second beam.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the first base station from the second base station, one or more beam parameters of the at least one first beam or the at least one second beam, the one or more beam parameters comprising at least one of:

a beam index;

synchronization signal scheduling information;

synchronization signal sequence information;

reference signal scheduling information;

reference signal sequence information; or

beam configuration information.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the first base station to the second base station, an acknowledgement indicating whether the first base station applies the handover trigger change.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second base station configures the handover trigger change based on information elements received from the first base station.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the handover request is for a handover of the wireless device towards the second cell of the second base station.

11. A base station comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to:

receive, from a second base station, a handover trigger change for handover between:

at least one first beam of a first cell of the base station; and

at least one second beam of a second cell of the second base station;

wherein the handover trigger change indicates a request for a change of a handover threshold for the base station initiating a handover from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam;

make, based on the change of the handover threshold, a handover decision for a wireless device from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam; and

transmit, to the second base station, a handover request for the wireless device.

12. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the base station to receive, from the second base station, at least one of:

a first cell identifier of the first cell;

a second cell identifier of the second cell;

at least one first beam index of the at least one first beam; or

at least one second beam index of the at least one second beam.

13. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the handover trigger change comprises a power value.

14. The base station of claim 13 , wherein the power value is associated with at least one of:

a reference signal received power; or

a reference signal received quality.

15. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the base station to transmit, by the base station to the wireless device, a radio resource control message comprising a measurement configuration based on the handover trigger change.

16. The base station of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further cause the base station to receive, from the wireless device and based on the measurement configuration, a measurement report comprising at least one of:

at least one first received power value associated with the at least one first beam; or

at least one second received power value associated with the at least one second beam.

17. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the base station to receive, from the second base station, one or more beam parameters of the at least one first beam or the at least one second beam, the one or more beam parameters comprising at least one of:

a beam index;

synchronization signal scheduling information;

synchronization signal sequence information;

reference signal scheduling information;

reference signal sequence information; or

beam configuration information.

18. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the base station to transmit, to the second base station, an acknowledgement indicating whether the base station applies the handover trigger change.

19. The base station of claim 11 , wherein the second base station configures the handover trigger change based on information elements received from the base station.

20. A system comprising:

a first base station; and

a second base station; and

wherein the first base station comprises:

one or more first processors; and

first memory storing first instructions that, when executed by the one or more first processors of the first base station, cause the first base station to:

receive, from a second base station, a handover trigger change for handover between:

at least one first beam of a first cell of the first base station; and

at least one second beam of a second cell of the second base station;

wherein the handover trigger change indicates a request for a change of a handover threshold for the first base station initiating a handover from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam;

make, based on the change of the handover threshold, a handover decision for a wireless device from the at least one first beam to the at least one second beam; and

transmit, to the second base station, a handover request for the wireless device.
