Abstract

Systems and methods for reducing error from noisy data received from a high frequency sensor by fusing received input with data received from a low frequency sensor by collecting a first set of dynamic inputs from the high frequency sensor, collecting a correction input point from the low frequency sensor, and adjusting a propagation path of a second set of dynamic inputs from the high frequency sensor based on the correction input point either by full translation to the correction input point or dampened approach towards the correction input point.

Claims (37)

1. A visualization system comprising:

a first transmitter operable to transmit a first signal;

a second transmitter, separate from the first transmitter, operable to transmit a second signal;

a first sensor operable to sense the first signal;

a second sensor, separate from the first sensor, operable to sense the second signal;

a transmitter time division multiplexer connected to the first and second transmitters and operable to switch transmission of the first and second signals from the first and second transmitters on and off in a time division manner;

a sensor time division multiplexer switch connected to the first and second sensors and operable to switch reception of the first and second signals sensed by the first and second sensors on and off in a time division manner that synchronizes with the time division manner of switching the transmission on and off of the first and second signals; and

a sensor digital processing unit connected to the first and second sensors to receive the first and second signals and operable to analyze the first and second signals to determine a location of the first transmitter and the first sensor relative to one another and to determine a location of the second transmitter and the second sensor relative to one another.

2. The visualization system of claim 1 further comprising:

a sensor amplifier connected to the sensor time division multiplexer switch to receive the first and second signals such that the sensor amplifier is shared between the first and second sensors.

3. The visualization system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a sensor analog-to-digital converter connected to the sensor amplifier to receive the first and second signals, the sensor digital processing unit being connected to the sensor analog-to-digital converter to receive the first and second signals.

4. The visualization system of claim 2 , further comprising:

a sensor bandpass filter connected to the sensor time division multiplexer switch to receive the first and second signals such that the sensor bandpass filter is shared between the first and second sensors.

5. The visualization system of claim 4 , wherein the sensor amplifier is a pre-amp connected between the sensor time division multiplexer switch and the bandpass filter.

6. The visualization system of claim 4 , wherein the sensor amplifier is a power amplifier connected between the bandpass filter and the sensor digital processing unit.

7. The visualization system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second transmitters and the first and second sensors are coils.

8. The visualization system of claim 1 , wherein the first sensor is a coil and the second sensor is a microphone.

9. The visualization system of claim 8 , wherein the firs transmitter is a coil and the second transmitter is an ultrasonic transducer.

10. The visualization system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a third transmitter operable to transmit a third signal; and

a third sensor operable to sense the third signal,

wherein the transmitter time division multiplexer is connected to the third transmitter and is operable to switch transmission of the first, second and third signals from the first, second and third transmitters in a time division manner,

wherein the sensor time division multiplexer switch is connected to the third sensor and is operable to switch reception of the first, second and third signals sensed by the first, second and third sensors in a time division manner that synchronizes with the switching of the time division manner of switching the transmission of the first, second and third signals, and

wherein the sensor digital processing unit is connected to the third sensor to receive the first and second sensors and operable to analyze the third signal and operable to determine a location of the third transmitter and the third sensor relative to one another.

11. The visualization system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a head-mounted display unit; and

a hand-held totem, wherein the first transmitter is located on the hand-held totem and the first sensor is located on the head-mounted display unit.
