Abstract

A base station distributed unit transmits, to a wireless device and via a radio link, packets received from a base station central unit. The base station distributed unit detects an outage of the radio link. The base station distributed unit transmits to the base station central unit, a parameter indicating the outage. The base station distributed unit receives from the base station central unit, an indication of a release of a wireless device context of the wireless device. The base station distributed unit releases the wireless device context.

Claims (65)

1. A method comprising:

sending, by a base station distributed unit to a wireless device and via a radio link, packets received from a base station central unit belonging to a same base station as the base station distributed unit;

sending, by the base station distributed unit to the base station central unit, a message requesting release of a wireless device context of the wireless device, the message comprising a cause parameter indicating a failure of the radio link, and the cause parameter comprising not receiving at least one transport block from the wireless device during a time period;

receiving, from the base station central unit, an indication of release of the wireless device context; and

releasing, by the base station distributed unit and in response to the indication, the wireless device context;

wherein the method further comprises:

sending, by the base station distributed unit to the base station central unit, at least one of:

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a channel status information report from the wireless device;

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a precoding matrix indicator from the wireless device; or

an information element indicating at least on failure to receive a rank indicator from the wireless device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cause parameter indicates a number of packet retransmissions of a radio link control layer reaches a threshold number.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station central unit sends, to a core network entity, a release message indicating a release request for a second wireless device context of the wireless device, wherein the second wireless device context comprises an interface connection between the base station central unit and the core network entity for the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device context comprises at least one of:

a data radio bearer;

a logical channel;

a security configuration parameter; or

an information parameter associated with the wireless device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication of the release of the wireless device context comprises at least one of:

a wireless device identifier of the wireless device; or

an information element indicating that a cause of the release of the wireless device context is the failure of the radio link of the wireless device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the base station distributed unit, the failure of the radio link of the wireless device.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending, by the base station distributed unit to the base station central unit, a complete message indication completion of the release of the wireless device context.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station central unit releases, based on the message, the wireless device context of the wireless device.

9. A base station distributed unit comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station distributed unit to:

send, to a wireless device and via a radio link, packets received from a base station central unit belonging to a same base station as the base station distributed unit;

send, to the base station central unit, a message requesting release of a wireless device context of the wireless device, the message comprising a cause parameter indicating a failure of the radio link, and the cause parameter comprising not receiving at least one transport block from the wireless device during a time period;

receive, from the base station central unit, an indication of release of the wireless device context; and

release, in response to the indication, the wireless device context;

wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station distributed unit to send, to the base station central unit, at least one of:

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a channel status information report from the wireless device;

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a precoding matrix indicator from the wireless device; or

an information element indicating at least on failure to receive a rank indicator from the wireless device.

10. The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the cause parameter indicates a number of packet retransmissions of a radio link control layer reaches a threshold number.

The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the base station central unit sends, to a core network entity, a release message indicating a release request for a second wireless device context of the wireless device, wherein the second wireless device context comprises an interface connection between the base station central unit and the core network entity for the wireless device.

12. The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the wireless device context comprises at least one of:

a data radio bearer;

a logical channel;

a security configuration parameter; or

an information parameter associated with the wireless device.

13. The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the indication of the release of the wireless device context comprises at least one of:

a wireless device identifier of the wireless device; or

an information element indicating that a cause of the release of the wireless device context is the failure of the radio link of the wireless device.

14. The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station distributed unit to determine the failure of the radio link of the wireless device.

15. The base station distributed unit of claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station distributed unit to send to the base station central unit, a complete message indication completion of the release of the wireless device context.

16. A system comprising:

a base station distributed unit comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station distributed unit to:

send, to a wireless device and via a radio link, packets received from a base station central unit belonging to a same base station as the base station distributed unit;

send, to the base station central unit, a message requesting release of a wireless device context of the wireless device, the message comprising a cause parameter indicating a failure of the radio link, and the cause parameter comprising not receiving at least one transport block from the wireless device during a time period;

receive, from the base station central unit, an indication of release of the wireless device context; and

release, in response to the indication, the wireless device context; and

wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the base station distributed unit to send, to the base station central unit, at least one of:

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a channel status information report from the wireless device;

an information element indicating at least one failure to receive a precoding matrix indicator from the wireless device; or

an information element indicating at least on failure to receive a rank indicator from the wireless device;

the base station central unit comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station central unit to:

send, to the wireless device, packets via the base station distributed unit;

receive, from the base station distributed unit, the message requesting the release of the wireless device context of the wireless device;

send, to the base station distributed unit, the indication of the release of the wireless device context; and

release the wireless device context.
