Abstract

Disclosed herein are various embodiments for systems and methods for self-payment and verification of the purchase of retail goods and services. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method for verifying the purchase using a mobile electronic device in wireless communication with a payment verification system and a code generating system is provided, the method comprising the steps of: receiving from a consumer information identifying an item for purchase; receiving from a consumer information identifying payment means for purchasing the item for purchase; processing the information identifying the item for purchase and information identifying payment means and generating a unique QR code indicating a purchase of the item; sending the unique QR code to a mobile device for display by a consumer to the vendor of the item for purchase.

Claims (39)

1 - 7 . (canceled)

8 . A system comprising:

mobile device including a camera, the camera configured to capture information related to a plurality of items to be purchased;

a processor configured to receive payment information related to the plurality of items;

communication circuitry configured to forward the information related to the items and the payment information to a server, the communication circuitry further configured to receive a unique code from the server, the unique code identifying transaction information related to a purchase of the plurality of items and identifying a data record stored in a database, the data record identifying the items and identifying the payment information for the items; and

a display configured to display the unique code to a retailer device to enable the retailer device to scan the unique code, verify and complete the transaction.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device is a smartphone.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device is a user's smartphone.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is optically scanned.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is scanned by a retailer electronic device, a kiosk or a point-of-service (POS) device.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is displayed in connection with a return and/or exchange transaction.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the code is provided for an exchange or return of one or more of the plurality of items.

15 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising one or more input components.

16 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the display is a touch screen.

17 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising location sensing component capable of detecting a location of the mobile device.

18 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising one or more internet connection components capable of communication with the server.

19 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising a near field communication (NFC) component capable of communication with the retailer device.

20 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is wirelessly communicated to the retailer device.

21 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the wireless communication at least over one or more of Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, WiFi or cellular.

22 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device is capable of communication with the server, the server comprising:

server communications circuitry;

a server processor and server memory that receive from the server communications circuitry information related to the items and the payment information;

instructions running on the server processor and stored in the server memory that: process information related to the items and the payment information, and generate the unique code, the unique code identifying transaction information to purchase the items and identifying a data record stored in a database, the data record identifying the items and identifying the payment information for the items; and

the communications circuitry forwarding the unique code to the mobile device.

23 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry is further capable of sending a query to the server for product information relating to the items, the query including at least one product identifier.

24 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry is further capable of receiving a response to a query for item information, the response including product information for the items, the processor processing a request from a user to add the items to a list of items to be purchased by the user.

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein the user is a consumer, a personal shopper assistant or a purchaser.

26 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry is further capable of transmitting to the server a request to purchase the items, wherein the request includes identifying information for the items, a user identifier, and payment information.

27 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code represents a purchase of the items.

28 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is provided to a retailer verification application.

29 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is represented by a scannable Quick-Response (QR) code.

30 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is represented by an optically scannable code.

31 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communication circuitry is further capable of establishing a communications link with the retailer device for an exchange of information.

32 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the communications link is a wireless link.

33 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device further includes location circuitry capable of detecting proximity to a retailer location.

34 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device is cable of communicating information indicating the mobile device has left a retailer location after purchasing the items.

35 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the items are one or more of goods and/or services.

36 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device is capable of communication with an inventory management system to exchange information about the items and/or that manages an inventory of the items.

37 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the mobile device provides a list of the plurality of items, payment information, retailer information, a time and place of purchase, and/or user identity information to the server.
