Abstract

Disclosed herein are various embodiments for systems and methods for self-payment and verification of the purchase of retail goods and services. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method for verifying the purchase using a mobile electronic device in wireless communication with a payment verification system and a code generating system is provided, the method comprising the steps of: receiving from a consumer information identifying an item for purchase; receiving from a consumer information identifying payment means for purchasing the item for purchase; processing the information identifying the item for purchase and information identifying payment means and generating a unique QR code indicating a purchase of the item; sending the unique QR code to a mobile device for display by a consumer to the vendor of the item for purchase.

Claims (57)

1 - 7 . (canceled)

8 . A system comprising:

communications circuitry;

a processor and memory configured to receive from the communications circuitry a unique code corresponding to a transaction for a plurality of items and verify a validity of the unique code by retrieving embedded information from the unique code, comparing the embedded information from the unique code to one or more entries in a database containing valid purchase information for the plurality of items, and determining an indication of whether the embedded information in the unique code matches at least one entry in the database containing valid purchase information for the items; and

the communications circuitry configured to forward a status of the transaction to a retailer device.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is received from a retail electronic device.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is received from a retail electronic device that scanned an image displayed on a smartphone.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is provided by a retail electronic device for a purchase of the plurality of items.

12 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising one or more internet connection components capable of communication with one or more of a retailer device and/or a mobile device.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry is further capable of receiving a query for item information, and providing a response including product information related to at least one of the items.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the unique code is capable of representation as a scannable Quick-Response (QR) code.

15 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry receives information indicating a mobile device has left a retailer after purchasing the items.

16 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the system is adapted to provide item inventory information.

17 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the status indicates the transaction has been approved.

18 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the status indicates the transaction has been denied or flagged for attention.

19 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the status further includes information related to the transaction, the information including one or more of: a list of the plurality of items, payment information, a time and place of purchase, and/or user identity information.

20 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the status is displayable on a retailer electronic device.

21 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the transaction is for a purchase of the plurality of items.

22 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the transaction is for an exchange of one or more of the plurality of items.

23 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry configured to forward the status of the transaction to a mobile device.

24 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the communications circuitry configured to forward the status of the transaction to a smartphone.

25 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the system is adapted to update inventory information.

26 . A mobile device comprising:

a camera, the camera configured to capture a product identifier of each of a plurality of items to be purchased;

a processor coupled to the camera and configured to receive payment information related to the items;

communication circuitry configured to send information related to each of the plurality of items and the payment information to a server, the communication circuitry further configured to receive a unique code from the server, the unique code identifying transaction information to purchase the plurality of items; and

a display configured to display a representation of the unique code in a manner to enable a retailer device to scan the unique code and to complete the transaction.

27 . The mobile device of claim 26 , wherein the communication interface is configured to send a query to a remote server for product information relating to at least one of the plurality of items, the query including information related to the product identifier.

28 . The mobile device of claim 27 , wherein the communication interface is configured to receive a response to the query.

29 . The mobile device of claim 27 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

process a request from a user to add the item to a list of items to be purchased by the user;

obtain a second product identifier of a second item;

process a request to add the second item to the list;

receive data identifying payment information related to the purchase of the items in the list;

initiate communication to the server of a request to purchase the items;

receive a response from the server authorizing the purchase of the items, the response including a token that uniquely corresponds to the user's purchase of the items, wherein the unique code corresponds to the token; and

display the token on the display to enable the retailer device that includes a user display to scan the token.

30 . A mobile device comprising:

a camera, the camera configured to capture information related to a plurality of items to be purchased;

a processor coupled to the camera, the processor configured to execute a software program, the processor, when executing the software program, configured to receive payment information related to the plurality of items;

communication circuitry configured to send information related to each of the plurality of items and the payment information to a remote server, the communication circuitry further configured to receive a unique code from the remote server, the unique code identifying transaction information to purchase the plurality of items; and

a display configured to display a representation of the unique code in a manner to enable a retailer device to scan the representation of the unique code and to complete the transaction.

31 . The mobile device of claim 30 , wherein the mobile device is a smart phone and wherein the software program is a downloadable application.

32 . A mobile device comprising:

an image capture device configured to obtain a product identifier of an item;

a communication interface configured to send a query to a remote server for product information relating to the item, the query including the product identifier, and to receive a response to the query, the response including the product information for the item;

a processor coupled to the communication interface and the image capture device, the processor configured to:

process a request to add the item to a list of items to be purchased by a user;

obtain a second product identifier of a second item;

process a request to add the second item to the list;
