Abstract

Disclosed are an apparatus and method of verifying an application installation procedure. One example method of operation may include receiving an application at a computer device and initiating the installation of the application on the computer device. The method may also provide executing the application during the installation procedure and creating a hash value corresponding to the executed application data. The method may further provide storing the hash value in memory and comparing the hash value to a pre-stored hash value to determine whether to continue the installation of the application.

Claims (57)

1. A method, comprising:

initiating, at a computer device, an installation of an application including one or more executables;

hashing, via the computer device, the one or more executables of the application and one or more libraries associated with the one or more executables at a time that the one or more executables are installed on the computer device to create one or more hash values;

storing the one or more hash values in memory of a hash value server remote from the computer device;

transmitting a query to the remote hash value server to verify integrity of the one or more executables, wherein the integrity of the one or more executables is verified by determining whether the created one or more hash values match a hash value stored in the memory;

installing the application on the computer device when the integrity of the one or more executables is verified;

rehashing, at the computer device, the one or more executables of the application each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values; and

ending the execution of the one or more executables when the one or more rehash values do not match the one or more stored hashed values.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

rehashing the one or more libraries each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

comparing the one or more hash values to a pre-stored hash value included with the application.

4. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

ending an installation of an application on the computer device if the created one or more hash values do not match the hash value stored in the memory.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving the application at the computer device.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

storing the one or more executables and the one or more libraries at the computer device.

7. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

transmitting the one or more hash values to the hash value server.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor configured to:

hash one or more executables and one or more libraries associated with the one or more executables at a time that the one or more executables are installed on a computer device to create one or more hash values;

transmit a query to a remote hash value server to verify integrity of the one or more executables;

install an application on the computer device when the integrity of the one or more executables is verified;

rehash the one or more executables each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values; and

end the execution of the one or more executables when the one or more rehash values do not match one or more stored hashed values;

wherein the integrity of the one or more executables is verified by determining whether the created one or more hash values match a hash value stored in the memory.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to:

rehash the one or more libraries each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to:

compare the one or more hash values to a pre-stored hash value included with the application.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to:

end an installation of an application if the created one or more hash values do not match the hash value stored in the memory.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , comprising:

a receiver configured to receive the application.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , comprising:

a memory configured to store the one or more executables and the one or more libraries.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to:

transmit the one or more hash values to a hash value server.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform:

hashing, via a computer device, one or more executables and one or more libraries associated with the one or more executables at a time that the one or more executables are installed on the computer device to create one or more hash values;

storing the one or more hash values in memory of a hash value server remote from the computer device;

transmitting a query to the remote hash value server to verify integrity of the one or more executables, wherein the integrity of the one or more executables is verified by determining whether the created one or more hash values match a hash value stored in the memory;

installing an application on the computer device when the integrity of the one or more executables is verified;

rehashing, at the computer device, the one or more executables of the application each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values; and

ending the execution of the one or more executables when the one or more rehash values do not match the one or more stored hashed values.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to perform:

rehashing the one or more libraries each time the one or more executables are executed to create one or more rehash values.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to perform:

comparing the one or more hash values to a pre-stored hash value included with the application.

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to perform:

ending an installation of an application on the computer device if the created one or more hash values do not match the hash value stored in the memory.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to perform:

receiving an application at the computer device.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to perform:

storing the one or more executables and the one or more libraries at the computer device.
