Abstract

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a system having a controller to collect a plurality of User Interface (UI) device configurations, receive a request from a computing device to download one or more of the plurality of UI device configurations, and transmit to the computing device the one or more UI device configurations requested to configure one or more UI devices of the computing device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (43)

1. A server, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

providing a graphical user interface comprising game information representative of a group of video games, settings information representative of a plurality of peripheral device settings, and ratings information representative of a group of ratings that each correspond to and provide a score to one or more of the plurality of peripheral device settings, wherein the ratings information is generated at least in part from feedback information from other users;

receiving, from a system of a user over a network, a user selection from the game information corresponding to a video game from the group of video games resulting in a selected video game;

retrieving peripheral device settings from among the plurality of peripheral device settings according to the selected video game; and

sending a selected peripheral device settings over the network to the system, wherein the selected peripheral device settings are configured for use by one or more portable devices, wherein the sending of the selected peripheral device settings to the system causes the system to enable selective reconfiguration of at least one of the one or more portable devices, and wherein the selected peripheral device settings configure an operation of at least one of the one or more portable devices during execution of the video game by the system.

2. The server of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving the selected peripheral device settings from a computing device of the user; and

storing the selected peripheral device settings.

3. The server of claim 2 , wherein the operations further comprise:

enabling the other users to utilize the selected peripheral settings; and

receiving over the network the feedback information from equipment of the other users.

4. The server of claim 1 , wherein the selected peripheral device settings comprise a navigation configuration, a pointer speed configuration, or a combination thereof.

5. The server of claim 1 , wherein the video game is hosted by a host server over the network.

6. The server of claim 1 , wherein the portable device comprises an accessory for controlling the video game.

7. The server of claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface comprises gamer information representative of an identification of a gamer of a plurality of gamers, and wherein each of the group of ratings corresponds to one of the plurality of gamers.

8. The server of claim 7 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a selection from the gamer information corresponding to a particular gamer of the plurality of gamers.

9. The server of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

providing in the settings information only a subset of the plurality of peripheral device settings that were previously generated by the particular gamer.

10. The server of claim 1 , wherein the settings information is categorized and presented in the graphical user interface according to device type information representative of a group of device types.

11. The server of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a selection from the device type information corresponding to a particular device type of the group of device types.

12. The server of claim 11 , wherein the sending the selected peripheral device settings over the network to the system is according to the selection from the device type information.

13. A method comprising:

presenting, by a processing system including a processor, a graphical user interface comprising game information representative of a group of video games, settings information representative of a plurality of peripheral device settings, and ratings information representative of a group of ratings that each correspond to and provide a score to one or more of the plurality of peripheral device settings, wherein the ratings information is generated at least in part from feedback information from other users;

transmitting, from the processing system over a network to a server, a user selection from the game information corresponding to a video game from the group of video games resulting in a selected video game of a user, wherein the transmitting the user selection causes the server to retrieve peripheral device settings from among the plurality of peripheral device settings according to the selected video game; and

receiving, by the processing system, a selected peripheral device settings over the network from the server, wherein the selected peripheral device settings are configured for use by one or more portable devices, wherein the selected peripheral device settings enables the processing system to selectively reconfigure at least one of the one or more portable devices, and wherein the selected peripheral device settings configure an operation of at least one of the one or more portable devices during execution of the video game by the processing system.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

transmitting the selected peripheral device settings to the server prior to the receiving of the selected peripheral device settings.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the feedback information is collected by the server based on the server enabling the other users to utilize the selected peripheral settings.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the selected peripheral device settings comprise a navigation configuration, a pointer speed configuration, or a combination thereof.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the video game is hosted by a host server over the network.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the portable device comprises an accessory for controlling the video game.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

providing a graphical user interface comprising settings information representative of a plurality of peripheral device settings, and ratings information representative of a group of ratings that each correspond to and provide a score to one or more of the plurality of peripheral device settings, wherein the ratings information is generated at least in part from feedback information from other users;

receiving, from a system of a user over a network, a user selection from the settings information corresponding to one of the plurality of peripheral device settings resulting in a selected peripheral device settings;

retrieving the selected peripheral device settings from among the plurality of peripheral device settings; and

sending the selected peripheral device settings over the network to the system, wherein the selected peripheral device settings are configured for use by one or more portable devices, wherein the sending of the selected peripheral device settings to the system causes the system to enable selective reconfiguration of at least one of the one or more portable devices, and wherein the selected peripheral device settings configure an operation of at least one of the one or more portable devices during execution of a video game by the system.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the operations further comprise:

enabling the other users to utilize the selected peripheral settings; and

receiving, over the network, the feedback information from equipment of the other users.
